I don’t collect art in hopes that people will collect my work in return, I collect art because I am obsessed and love doing it.

I don’t support other artists by telling collectors & curators about them, helping to promote their drops, exhibitions, etc because I want them to do the same for me, I do it because I love & believe in their work and want to see them thrive so they can continue to make more work for us all to enjoy & be inspired by hopefully without starving or stressing constantly.

I don’t see people in the art world (or in general) through a hierarchical lens either: I don’t prioritize people who have status or access or money in hopes that they will do something for me or my career. I don’t see people in a tiered system, I never have, I’m simply looking for human connection and interesting/inspiring & natural relationships.

And despite how common it seems, I never presume those more cynical things to be what is motivating people I interact with either. I don’t find it fulfilling to be in a state of distrust,paranoia and competition by default. I run into this vibe all the time where people feel like they are scanning you like “what does this person want from me? Or what can I get from them?” Fuck that forever and a day, what a shitty way to exist.

Just because we live in such a transactional/hierarchical society & work in a highly transactional/hierarchical industry it does not mean we must become that ourselves. We always have the choice to go against the norm and let genuine curiousity, honesty and respect guide us. Some people may break your heart but nothing is more beautiful IMO than someone who knows that risk and leaves their heart open anyway.
