This is superficial. It's not the worst problem with US policing, or the root of the problems. But it’s an example of how aggression is built into the basic tactics and culture of police in this country, in every state and every city. I think it’s obvious need a new approach.
Secondly, it actually makes protests more violent. It's human nature that when people are confronted with the threat of aggression (which is what all this stuff is), they become more aggressive. And research backs that up. https://t.co/BrsDAeHOvw
One thing that’s been repeatedly obvious around Downtown Houston in the last week and a half (and has been obvious to many Americans, especially people of color, for a long time) is how aggressive typical police equipment, deployment, and presence are.
@SuzLareau @SPVM@MTL_Ville C'est anecdotique, mais moi le policier sur Mansfield/Saint-Antoine a attendu que je passe avant de changer la lumière. J'ai bien apprécié. 👍
"Cyclists are painted as complicit in their injuries and deaths, in what is an environment that prioritizes driver convenience and comfort over the safety of vulnerable road users. Most often, when cyclists break rules, it's because they don't feel safe." https://t.co/U9NKa1gcQC
Because of electric cars and smart tech, we are hitting peak copper and the industry is “working feverishly to develop new mines” which are carbon intensive and toxic. Episode 375 in why electric cars won’t save us. https://t.co/p3PIPV58Sj
(1/7) So apparently some (I hope very few) people online are using the fact that I am the primary developer of the eht-imaging software library (https://t.co/n7djw1r9hY) to launch awful and sexist attacks on my colleague and friend Katie Bouman. Stop.
It's MontréHack next Wednesday! Hosted by @banquenationale downtown and doing a pre-NorthSec CTF 101 presented by @obilodeau.
Details and sign-up will be available soon. We heard last years' feedback, it's going to be really 101 and not 201, 301.

We have to remember that there is a very real danger that it will turn out that self driving cars will not work in cities as we know them and that the response of the industry and its allies will be try to to change cities to fit self driving cars.
