Today, December 17, marks the ancient Greco-Roman traditional celebration of the god of Saturn, the god of the golden age. The mythical-historic golden age of Saturn is associated with plentifulness and communal life.

Historically, due to Saturn’s association with sowing and planting, this golden age may represent a time in Neolithic Europe where agricultural societies provided an abundance of food and the first stable social structures and cities.

It may also confer metaphysical truth. In Republic, Plato (and Socrates) speak of a similar utopian existence of mankind in an ideal, communal society. However, Plato alludes that this passage is as an allegory of the unity and harmony of the soul. And, according to Evola, Saturn’s rule represents metaphysical being, as opposed to becoming. When combined with the idea of unity that we find associated with this age, we can hypothesize that Saturn represents the top of the divine intellect. This level of the Platonic metaphysics represents the pure unity of being, that which all things share in common, existence itself, prior to any particular differences between the different beings. Supporting this idea is Plotinus’s identification of Saturn with the divine intellect in his Enneads.

Whatever the case may be, this is a day of joyous celebration for all European traditionalists who still worship the gods of our nations and the cosmos! Hail the gods and this glorious day!
