🌙 The Cozy Stories 💛
From Anu
During my pregnancy, I started a nightly ritual of reading aloud to my baby before sleep.
Now, I’m opening it up a little wider so you can listen in too! 🤗
Just DM me to join ❤️
I think this is super relevant and explains a lot of the “side effects” people experience with psychedelics and mindfulness: when you increase awareness too fast without increasing equaniminity you become overly sensitive and extremely disoriented. When you increase equaniminity without increasing awareness it’s like being a stoner who’s perpetually chill but has no desire to actively engage with the world around them. People who are high in both tend to be an amazing mix of non-neurotic yet truly motivated by what matters to them
this is exactly how i try to host whenever i bring together friends from different groups.
i introduce everyone, make sure everyone is part of the conversation, ask questions to anyone who seems a little quiet, and try and keep the energy of the room light and welcoming.
i was lucky enough to have a college friend group that did this at every house party. everyone mixed together naturally, everyone felt welcome, and the entire goal was just to have fun together. no weird hierarchy or competition, especially at our big ages.
hosting is such a pivotal social skill. people can feel when someone has taken responsibility for making the space feel warm, open, and easy to enter.
Civilized people hate voice notes because they’re inherently rude. A voice note is easy to send but hard to receive, since one must interrupt oneself and listen. To send someone a voice note is to say "My time is more valuable than yours." It’s insulting.
notes from eileen gu:
• you can do anything you put your mind to
• be impossible to categorize. most people spend their lives trying to fit into one box. you must break that box.
• one exceptional skill can become the distribution channel for five others
• don’t spend your whole life competing in someone else’s game. build a career so unique there isn’t really anyone to compare you to.
• your multitudes are your unfair advantage
• ambition can be feminine
• play long games
• be remembered for expanding what’s possible
what an icon truly
the era of autistic deep work is over
your agents are more autistic than you and better at deep work
welcome to the shallow work future
total ADHD dominance
I think the wisest thing I can tell my daughter, is this:
Your body is not some infallible arbiter of moral rightness. It is your natural bias to mythologise your instincts and somatic responses into intuition. Your underlying presumption is that your body is never wrong. That what it communicates is special knowledge. That you should listen to it. That if it wasn’t true, you wouldn’t feel that way, so the fact that you do is evidence that it is.
This will be your undoing.
Trauma, fear and other forms of dysregulation embedded into the nervous system are not deeper forms of non-verbalised wisdom. They are threat responses. Sometimes, threat responses can be triggered by non-threats, because fear is tyrannical and overzealous. If fear is your dominant emotion or reason for acting, in almost all cases whatever it is telling you to do is wrong.
I am not saying you can never trust your body. I am saying that you should not trust it blindly. It is your obligation to know your body well enough to be able to tell the difference between transient hormonal influence, nervous system dysregulation, true lateral pattern recognition and intuition.
Calling all these things “intuition” is the lazy thing that the majority of otherwise fairly mediocre women do. Do not be like them. Do not be so easily misled and falsely self-mythologising. Audit yourself. And when you are able to conclude your body is lying to you, do not blindly obey her. Push through.
No one on this earth is more persecuted than the chronically horny. You will be exiled and crucified for being born with a >90th percentile sex drive
The ADHD dream career is being a highly paid consultant who swoops in, solves a complex crisis with a chaotic stroke of genius, and immediately exits before having to fill out the timesheets.
Claude Shannon was asked in an interview how is he so carefree.
His reply: “I do what comes naturally to me. I’m not interested in being useful”.
What an absolutely wonderful way to live!
the figs will rot if you don’t eat them. the jasmine blooms for three weeks and then it’s over. your body at twenty-five will never come back, and neither will your body at forty-five. everything you’re saving for later spoils in the waiting. 1/6
i think some people don’t recognize their manipulative tendencies because they’re just like. a terrified animal desperate to make the fear or discomfort stop at all costs. that’s the mechanism behind the not smart manipulator i think and it feels genuine so it’s harder to resist
Torpenhow Hill, England
When the Saxons arrived and asked the locals what that hill was called, the Welsh replied, “Pen,” which simply means hill in Welsh.
The Saxons, apparently not spotting they’d already been given the full answer, added their own word for hill: tor. So it became Torpen - literally Hill Hill.
A few centuries later, the Norse turned up and repeated the exercise, adding haugr, their word for hill. Now it was effectively Torpenhaugr - Hill Hill Hill.
Then the English arrived, looked at the whole thing, shrugged, and added “Hill” on the end for good measure.
Thus we ended up with Torpenhow Hill:
Hill Hill Hill Hill.
It’s comforting to know that for over a thousand years, successive generations have been independently deciding that the previous lot hadn’t made it quite clear enough that it was, in fact, a hill.
Language is magnificent.
Humans… less so.🤷🏻♂️🤣
