The Jays era got me thru some real fucking shit times. It’ll forever be one of my favorite sports eras ever. Real damn appreciative that I got to grow up rooting for the Jays
We really got to watch Jaylen Brown go from averaging 6.6 PPG in his rookie season to becoming a 5x All-Star, 2x All-NBA, NBA Champion and Finals MVP.
Some grew up with Russell, some grew up with Bird, others grew up with Pierce.
I’m thankful to have grown up with the Jays.
Personal opinion: Celtics definitely prioritized into the off-season and this trade deadline getting under the tax BUT they weren’t willing to do so at the cost of being competitive. The Vucevic move is a perfect example. She’s $6.5 mil or so and still get a need to stay in it.
I am not a Star Wars fan at all. But know the story. Look at this in the way you look at your favorite movie. This is a company that stated they make movies, and how important that is for them.
As far as the Star Wars reference, Luke loses. Badly. Vader takes his hand, his confidence, and his illusions. And then Luke does something pretty fucking important. He lets go.
He doesn't beat Vader. He survives him. He accepts that this is not the moment to win. This is the moment to endure, and live with the truth.
Cena tapping out after minutes of refusing to quit mirrors that exact beat. The acknowledgment that continuing is not bravery anymore. It is just delay.
Fading out would have been easy. Fading out keeps Cena character perfect. It lets people say, “Well, he never really gave up. That would have protected Cena instead of elevating Gunther, and we didn't need to protect Cena anymore. Cena tapping doesn't make him look weak at all.
He fought for five full minutes. He exhausted every escape. He reached the point where the only thing left was unconsciousness or acceptance. Passing out would have turned Gunther’s win into an accident. Tapping turned it into dominance
The smile is what made it unforgettable. To me, that is the hero realizing the fight has already been won in every way that matters over his 23 year career, even if the bell rings, and Gunther is the one standing tall.
The ending to Cena-Gunther is perfect. Cena smiling at the end realizing he can’t escape, at peace that this is the end. Taps out softly, peacefully, giving us the biggest shocker since Taker losing at WM30. Cena gives the rub to Gunther, and does what tradition dictates.
Celtics were supposed to be all about defensive intensity, pushing the pace, and crashing the defensive glass. In the 2nd quarter of this game, just like the 1st and 4th quarters against Philly, they did none of that. Gonna be a long year. #Celtics#NBA
