Carroll County officials have issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents of Prestonville, Greensbottom, Happy Hollow, Blue Lick, Lock Number 1 Road, and Lower Mason Street due to an unintentional release of flood gates at Dix Dam. According to a statement from officials, “There has been a release at Dix Dam that is drastically impacting downstream areas. All we know for sure is this is going to impact our area in a major way.” The situation is expected to cause significant flooding along the Kentucky River, threatening communities downstream.

Carrollton Mayor Robb Adams addressed the crisis in a Facebook Live video “I normally try not to spook you,” Adams said, explaining that the city received word from State Emergency Management in Frankfort around noon that 10 gates at Dix Dam had been accidentally opened. The mayor noted that, as of the time of his livestream, the gates remained open, and he lacked further details about why or by whom they were opened. Adams urged residents to take the evacuation orders seriously and prioritize their safety.

In response to the unfolding situation, Carrollton City Hall will be closed on Monday, April 7, as officials continue to monitor and manage the impacts of the flooding. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to evacuate immediately and stay informed through local updates as this emergency develops.
