Why it exists.

Inflation is the single most argued-about number in the world, and the argument is completely inert. Somebody says eggs are insane now. Somebody replies that it is a rounding error against wages. Nothing happens. Nobody is ever wrong, because nothing was ever at stake — there was no way to be wrong, only a way to be loud.

Meanwhile the number itself is not in doubt at all. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has been sending people into shops to write down the price of a dozen grade A large eggs for decades. They publish it, monthly, free, with the methodology attached. There is no argument about the figure. There is only an argument about what it *means*, conducted entirely by people who have never had to price their opinion.

anythingpad exists because that seemed like a waste of a perfectly good number.

what is Anythingpad?

It is a launchpad where the coin is named after a number the U.S. government publishes every month.

Toilet paper. Funerals. A dozen eggs. Parking. Cigarettes. A pound of ground roast coffee. The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures all of it, prints it on a schedule, and publishes it free — and until now the only thing anyone did with those numbers was complain about them.

There are 37 of these series on the pad. Every one links back to its own release at the source, so before you touch a coin you can go and read the exact figure it is named for. The display names are lifted from the source's own titles rather than invented, which is why the board says "Household paper products" and not "toilet paper index (probably)".
