This week is the 42nd anniversary of one of the most shameful days in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran when 10 Bahá’í women were hanged in Shiraz simply for their faith. The online photo of the the event, itself a reconstruction by a French photographer, is too horrific to share. Two years ago the #OurStoryIsOne campaign was launched connecting it directly to the #WomanLifeFreedom movement to remind the people that all minorities inside and outside Iran are united against this terror driven by an ideology that thinks so little of women and the sanctity of life. #Iran #IsraeliranWar

These are the four pieces for which I won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. All published in 2024.
Blessings to the souls of 31 members of my family who were killed in one air strike in 2023.
Blessings to the souls of my four first cousins, two of whom were killed with their husbands and their children.
Blessings to the soul of my great aunt, Fatima, whose “corpse” remains under the rubble of her house since October 2024.
Blessings to the graves of my grandparents, refugee from Yaffa, who I will never find.
Blessings to the souls of my students who got killed while looking for food and firewood. To the school where I studied and where I taught, to the library that I founded and to which I added one poetry book before 2023.
Blessings to many more, many more.
I’m praying for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and JUSTICE and PEACE!
