@TheAtlantic Shame on @TheAtlantic for publishing a piece that makes such uninformed generalizations about an entire school system’s functioning based on one person’s unqualified opinion
@ksuhr22 @DoughneyJ This is a great example of a change that has a lot of trouble in the implementation part. Restorative justices have buy in because of theory, but the practice is hard work. #edle5330
@DCRB_Sammi Also, sending a clear message for follow-through. There is nothing more frustrating as a staff member than having leadership start up an initiative without following through and giving it up #EDLE5330
I think some people need more information to rationalise or justify change. People don't want to do things just because "the boss said." Providing rationale and data can be helpful #edle5330
@ksuhr22 @DoughneyJ I agree that implementation is the challenging part. People are trying it out, and beginning to see the challenges with change #edle5330
I think of this in the same way that I think about my own practice in the classroom--strong staff culture, procedures, routines, all need to be established first before we can jump into the "content" #edle5330
I noticed a similar trend when talking with my current principal. The most effective leadership team I've ever been managed by was the team that was able to manage these responsibilities amongst all 5 team members, with instructional leadership being at the forefront #edle5330
@DoughneyJ A5: The campus principals I spoke with had roughly the same estimates.
Instructional leadership - 40%
Managing student and staff situations - 25%
Dealing with parents - 15%
Dealing with crises - 5%
Managing the physical plant - 15%

@ksuhr22 @DoughneyJ If we want to build good schools we need to keep quality teachers, and quality teachers crave development and guidance in instruction. Hence, the importance of instructional leadership. #edle5330
