Dario does not discuss open source / weights in his essay. AT ALL!. @_sholtodouglas - when you say it makes your life harder and easier for others to catch up - you clearly are referring to other US based frontier labs - OAI and Grok. Hidden in their is your idea that Anthropic is ahead of them both - which is questionable. Besides, the big question everyone fears is - does this self regulation amongst US labs put us behind China?? That's the question you should definitely address amongst others. You can do it here in short and in detail in the pod next week :)

Calling this as a start of regulatory capture is not correct. Self regulation amongst frontier labs is what Demis discussed in his essay a few weeks back. Elon agreed then. "Embedded Evaluators" is what Dario discussed in his essay today. Elon agreed again. Same concept. Different lingo. OAI-HF fiasco triggered the powers to be. Where and Why is the confusion? @DavidSacks

It was visible this was coming when Elon agreed with Demis on his essay a few days back. Today's essay from Dario and endorsement from all key leaders is the first public step 0 in this pursuit. I think a big section of smart folks are confusing this with a sort of regulatory capture (and painting it as a success for Anthropic). I don't think that's the case. Else, Elon will not have agreed to it. These leaders definitely see that ASI inflection point is near and before it goes too far, they want to figure out that humans continue to remain in control. The other big question that this AI-Alliance poses cloud on is how US continues to start leading the open source/weight space. While China has been ahead in that space, US does not like it and want to lead it. There sure is a plan in the hopper for it. If I were to bet, in next 6-9 months, Nvidia will have a direct role in that space. Time will tell....
