Our soldiers willingly embrace extraordinary risks to safeguard the peace and sovereignty of India. Many endure lifelong disabilities as a direct consequence of their selfless actions in defense of the homeland. Rather than seeking premature release, numerous such heroes and heroines opt to remain in uniform, leveraging their invaluable experience, leadership, and operational expertise to mentor and strengthen the Armed Forces. This choice is not born of convenience but of an unyielding commitment to duty.

The erstwhile income-tax exemption was far from an act of charity; it was a solemn acknowledgment of their profound sacrifices. The revocation of this benefit for those who persevere in service despite their injuries conveys an unintended yet deeply wounding message: that resilience and continued contribution are met with administrative penalty rather than commendation. In a poignant irony, a soldier medically invalided out is granted relief, while one who soldiers on through adversity is deprived of equivalent moral and financial recognition.

This policy adjustment not only undermines the equity of support extended to our defenders but also erodes the sacred national covenant that those wounded in the line of service shall never be made to feel burdened for prioritizing duty over discharge.

India has long held its Armed Forces in the highest esteem, with the ethos of “soldiers first” at the heart of our national pride. The restoration of income-tax exemption for disabled personnel who serve until retirement would unequivocally reaffirm this principle, elevate morale across all ranks, and fortify the unbreakable bond of trust between the nation and its guardians.

Sir, with this, home budget of senior and super senior disabled ex-servicemen will be reduced by 25% in one stroke. They are not at an employable age and have no way to offset this hit.

I humbly implore your gracious intervention to review this matter expeditiously and reinstate the exemption. Such a step would serve the cause of fairness, express our collective gratitude, and deliver justice to those who have already paid the ultimate price in blood and valor for our security.
