#WATCH | Ernakulam, Kerala: Steve Lee Smith, Former NASA Astronaut says, " India has been very successful in space (sector) in the last 20 years, very well respected around the world. Mission Over Mars to circle Mars, it was the first time a country had ever done that...there was landing on the moon last year by India...in the world history, they just did something no one has ever done..."

The Archbishop of Washington D.C. just said it directly.
“In Catholic teaching, this is not a just war.”
This isn’t a foreign pope making diplomatic statements from Rome.
This is the Archbishop of the American capital. The man who leads the Catholic Church in the city where the war was decided, where Congress was gaveled into silence, where the Pentagon threatened the Vatican’s ambassador for daring to disagree.
He just told Washington — from Washington — that what they are doing fails the moral test their own faith demands.
The just war doctrine has four criteria. A just cause. Right intention. Last resort. Proportional means.
Cardinal McElroy is saying this war fails them.
He joins Pope Leo XIV who called it unjust. Who called Trump’s threats unacceptable. Who the Pentagon summoned and threatened with the Avignon Papacy for saying so.
They threatened the Pope. They didn’t silence him.
They can’t silence the Archbishop either.
"I don't think the message of the gospel is meant to be abused in the way some people are doing it."
Pope Leo responds to President Trump, who said the Pope is "weak on crime and terrible for Foreign Policy".
Pope Leo said he will continue to "promote peace" and that "someone has to stand up and say, 'there's a better way to do this'".
In the dramatic circumstances of war, information must guard against the risk of turning into propaganda. It is every journalist's duty to verify the news, so as not to become a megaphone for power. They must show the suffering that war always brings to populations, which entails showing the face of war and recounting it through the eyes of victims.
From Abhinandan Sekhri of NewsLaundry:
Yesterday, The Washington Post laid off one-third of its staff. It eliminated every single editor and correspondent in the Middle East. Bureau chiefs, from Cairo to Berlin, were laid off, including India’s bureau chief Pranshu Verma. We’re told over 300 people have lost their jobs.
Even by the normal standard of media layoffs that have been documented through Covid, this is a purge.
This should be a wake-up call.
Jeff Bezos bought Washington Post for $250 million. For context, he’s worth over $240 billion.
He paid $500 million for his ‘super-yacht’.
He also has a ‘support vessel’ that cost $75 million.
He spent $237 million on properties just in Miami.
He owns over 420,000 acres of land in the United States.
He spent at least $20 million – a pittance, compared to the rest of his spending – on his wedding last year.
Under him, Amazon spent $40 million to acquire the rights to Melania, a documentary on Melania Trump. Melania herself will get paid 70 percent of this amount. Amazon also spent $35 million to market it.
We’re not even converting these dollar figures to rupees because that’s too many zeros for a single email. But remember this, Jeff Bezos could spend $1 million every single day and only run out of money after 623 years.
Yet here’s Washington Post’s purge, just a year and a bit after Bezos famously said, “The advantage I bring to The Post is when they need financial resources, I’m available…I’m the doting parent in that regard.”
Billionaires don’t have your backs. We’ve said this for 14 years. It’s why we built a series on media ownership and explained NDTV’s crumble after the Adani takeover. Billionaires want to do one thing – make more money. It takes precedence over everything else, whether in America or India.
You don’t have the billions – or the millions either – of a Bezos. That doesn’t mean you don’t have their power. You have even more power. Because there are so many of you, of us. We are all stronger TOGETHER!
Thank you for supporting Newslaundry and building the future of journalism. For every bad decision made by a billionaire, were able to offer you the alternative. Because we’re stronger together.
Forward this email to a friend who could use a wake-up call too. Tell them to subscribe. Gift them a subscription if you have to, or reply to this email with their email ID and we’ll email them for you. We’ve got the power together.
In gratitude,
The @WashPost has now laid off its Asia editor, its New Delhi bureau chief, its Sydney bureau chief, its Cairo bureau chief, the entire Middle East reporting team, China correspondents, Iran correspondents, Turkey correspondents, and many more. The world is becoming less America-centric by the minute while the United States is becoming more America-centric than ever. It is just a depressing yet somehow perfect summation of our current moment that one of the most important newspapers in the history of the country - one that has actually shaped the history of the United States - doesn't think reporting on the world is of any use anymore. What an utterly perfect encapsulation of where we have arrived.
If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.
Democracy dies in oligarchy.
Airlines are quick to charge us for a few grams of extra baggage, but when they delay or cancel flights without notice, passengers are left stranded with zero compensation.
Rules for customers, excuses for airlines. Completely unfair.
I raised this issue in parliament
TURTLE LIFE | In FY24, Kerala paid ₹23,966.92 crore in direct taxes (income and corporate taxes) to the Centre. On top of that, Kerala contributed ₹18,406 crore as the Centre’s share of GST collections.
And what did we get yesterday?
Nothing, except a turtle conservation centre.
BJP leaders in Kerala had gathered at their Thiruvananthapuram office, invited the media, and watched the Budget live, clearly expecting a special announcement for the state.
Nothing came.
The cameras were switched off, the chairs emptied, and they left quietly, with egg on their face.

Is anyone working in these institutions @LabourMinistry & @MCA21India
The second best actor in BJP, @TheSureshGopi won in Thrissur by transferring nearly 60,000 votes from BJP workers residing in different parts of Kerala to Thrissur constituency in 2023-2024.
Suresh Gopi resides in Thiruvananthapuram with his family till today. But for his Lok Sabha elections he transferred his vote and his entire family including 11 votes to Thrissur, to a fake address where they don't reside.
@ECISVEEP gave them votes there, without verifying whether they reside there or not. Now this week he and his family voted in Thiruvananthapuram again, which proves his vote chori again.
Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram are 300 km apart. The actor has done many awe-inspiring police officer roles strongly criticising corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. Now he has turned out to be one of them, and but the worst one who will do anything nasty, and ready to subvert any rule and ready to throw tens of crores of rupees to win an election.
Such a fall @TheSureshGopi. Such a terrible fall!
Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, please clarify your position on the removal of female journalists from the press conference of the representative of the Taliban on his visit to India.
If your recognition of women’s rights isn’t just convenient posturing from one election to the other, then how has this insult to some of India’s most competent women been allowed in our country, a country whose women are its backbone and its pride.
@Uber_India, your map was glitching, and I couldn't stop at my second location because it only provided directions to my third stop! This issue could have been resolved with a phone call, but I can't seem to find your contact number. So kindly resolve !!!
On the night of 8–9 May 2025, Pakistan carried out large-scale violations of Indian airspace, attempting to target military infrastructure with 300–400 drones across 36 locations from Leh to Sir Creek. Indian forces neutralized many using kinetic and non-kinetic means. An armed #UAV strike on Bhatinda was also thwarted. India responded by launching drone strikes on four Pakistani air defence sites, destroying a #radar. Pakistan escalated with artillery and drone attacks across the #LoC, causing casualties. Alarmingly, Pakistan kept its civil #airspace open during the assault, endangering civilian flights.
