DEEP BREATH … and here we go …

Throughout the years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have based every decision they make around a core set specified values and ethics with stability and loyalty. This model is based off of the “Steeler way” implemented by the Rooney family. It’s been the standard for over 50 years, to which we’ve had many successes. Although the results are extraordinary and unparalleled to feats achieved by other organizations, the core issue of the Pittsburgh Steelers is far more eerie. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ idolized way of managing business decisions, both externally and internally is blinded by the loyalty this very franchise was built. The Pittsburgh Steelers value stability and loyalty more than they value change. Most, if not all positional coaches for the Pittsburgh Steelers would have been relieved of their duties had it been any other franchise. The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t run towards the chaos and welcome change like Tomlin continuously promotes each postgame press conference. They stay sedentary within the confines of looming internal complexities holding this franchise back. The Steelers' loyalty feels laudable and emblematic of what sports should be. While many teams keep making quick-fix coaching 
changes, the Steelers abide by a patient strategy and keep a long-term view.

It was Tomlin’s decision to hire Matt Canada. It was Tomlin’s decision to promote Canada to OC. It was Tomlin’s decision to keep Canada when he should’ve terminated his services 2 years ago. Instead, we are now entering a nonsensical purgatory that is jeopardizing the growth of QB Kenny Pickett. Tomlin knows the comfort level associated between the two, and because of that stability within their relationship, he is not going to budge. And that in itself is a MAJOR area of concern. We are seeing the same issues we’ve seen since Canada has started his tenure as our OC three years ago. Stale run game. Lack of an offensive line in BOTH run blocking and pass blocking. Regression with your second year QB. No creativity. No pulse. No sense of urgency. No nothing. It’s bland. Its predictable. And defenses are adjusting. The issue is that Pickett is not seeing the field. He’s doing what he did at Pitt. He’s bailing the pocket quickly and locking eyes with the first receiver he sees and forcing throws. That’s fixable with the right scheme, line and coordinators, all of which we DO NOT have. He needs better pocket presence, but it’s difficult when you don’t have the line to block for you. Our receivers aren’t doing anything to help him either. Do I think Pickett is the answer long term? Right now I would say no, but I need to see him in a better scheme, with a competent coordinator and a better line. I think he could be, 100%. He’s a talented kid. Very athletic. Pickett can be good. I really do believe that. But it starts with the scheme and supporting cast you have around him. Of which we have NONE. Until that changes, we will stay complacent. The game is passing by Tomlin. We are stuck in this endless cycle of remaining loyal, while other teams are keeping up with the times and passing us by. We are in an offense-driven league. You need a top 12-ish defense which we have, but you also need to score 30-35 points per game. I haven’t believed in our abilities to do this … in … you guessed it … three years. Let’s not kid ourselves … Tomlin is a great coach. A future HOF’er. However, he does a fantastic job of taking on more than he can handle and assigns his coaching style to mask the existing ailments offensively, defensively and internally. I’m beyond sick of the standard. I’m beyond sick of other teams adjusting to the teams and getting better while we continue to drown ourselves in our self-made quicksand.

Pittsburgh is the city that made me. I bleed black and gold and will forever bleed black and gold. It’s an honor to be a pure bred Pittsburgher. All I want is for this team to see what us fans see.

We are saddened by the loss of Tim Wakefield.

Tim began his Major League career with the Pirates and was a part of our baseball family for six years. He made his debut in 1992 and was a key addition to the pitching staff that helped propel the team to its third consecutive Postseason appearance. Off the field, Tim always devoted his time to make an impact on others within the Pittsburgh community.

He was a great man who will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
