Cette sculpture est une évocation allégorique de Diane de Poitiers, sous les traits de la déesse Diane, qui enlace un cerf représentant Henri II, son royal amant ; les deux chiens de la déesse, Phrocyon le lévrier et Cyrius le barbet, sont derrière elle. 

Cette sculpture provient d'une des fontaines du château d'Anet, construit à partir de 1547 pour Diane de Poitiers (1499-1566) par Philibert Delorme, architecte du roi Henri II.

This sculpture is an allegorical evocation of Diana of Poitiers, in the guise of the goddess Diana, embracing a stag representing Henry II, her royal lover; the goddess's 2 dogs, Phrocyon the greyhound and Cyrius the barbet, are behind her.

This sculpture comes from one of the fountains in the Château d'Anet, built from 1547 onwards for Diane de Poitiers (1499-1566) by Philibert Delorme, architect to King Henri II.

Drawn entirely from The Met collection, the exhibition traces the Sargent family’s creative legacy, highlighting Emily’s close bond with her brother and the different paths their artistic lives would take.
