@hero_richie@RobertStock6 It’s much easier. You’re already halfway down and most balls in the dirt are between your knees, so you reduce the chances on one slipping through the 5-hole. And then it’s easier to push to one side because that knee is down, so the only hard part is pushing the other way.
@ottcaplax Flosports is actually a great service. It’s been the home for a lot of track over the years, and we use it now for college baseball and lacrosse for my kids.
USA baseball needed the travel ball dad - he knows all the scenarios, has mapped them out extensively and told everyone who will listen (and those that will ignore him). He may be annoying, but he knows the tiebreaker rules, scenarios win or lose and who and when they will play next - in every scenario possible. He would have told DeRosa and every manager. Travel ball dads for the win!
The Olympic gold medal game has been at basically the same time (noon-2 pm local time, last event of the games) every single time the NHLers have been in it.
Somebody blew it big time by scheduling the men’s hockey gold medal game for 8 a.m. ET Sunday.
That just can’t happen. You know it’s going to be U.S.-Canada. European time zones don’t matter. They should’ve worked the entire Olympics schedule around giving it a better slot.
MARLINS WIN!
@SStrom_ was with Liam Hicks who collected his first career extra base hit, RBI and first caught stealing of his career in a 4-0 shutout win over the Braves.
@harvilla I need to point out that Avril and Alanis have a similar twang not because they’re Canadian, but because they’re from towns 2 hours apart. It’s a regional accent, not a national affectation.
“[Baseball] breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart.
“The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone.
“You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”
— A. Bartlett Giamatti
This cannot be the means by which independent media attempts to survive. On the kindness -- or malevolence -- of billionaires. This is no future.
And the Washington Post will still be whatever it is for the next eight days, with or without some of its readership. After that, the billionaires must be induced to sell these entities in a manner that reestablishes them as capable of carrying the public trust. That has been destroyed in this instance.
As you hear people arguing about one-knee catching today, remember that every generation gets angsty when next gen does it differently
Here's a bit from the great @pgammo way back in 1989
