@FoxgirlGoRawr@hecubian_devil Anarchists are either 1) Will To Power types in disguise who want to be the Lord Humungus figure in charge, or 2) Total pyschopaths who love violence and cruelty for their own sake and want a society where they go unchecked.
@BlackHumor712@hecubian_devil Violence would exist anyway, in an anarchist society it would just atomise into different vigilante groups, who would eventually start to coalesce into units of new micro-state power.
@romanhelmetguy And the window for ensuring perpetual American nuclear unipolarity lasted for longer than people think. JFK was given the option of preemptively destroying the Soviet nuclear arsenal when it still couldn’t reach the US. Once he refused, it was all over.
@_kruptos Why? You can shrink the state and then build other defences against a leftist counterrevolution. It does require the state being managerialist in certain areas - immigration, education, constitutional policy - but not the economic sphere.
@iAmJoshHunt You’re nuts. There’s no way that an election magically reduces the numbers of the Labour left while leaving a centre-left governing majority intact. The only way to do that is ruthless pre-election candidate screening, Cummings-style, which Burnham isn’t prepared to do.
@hankfrackett@terminallyOL There’s a few hints that the nature of the “backfire” on Voldemort isn’t as simple as Dumbledore makes it out to be. When the OotP go to the Department of Mysteries, it’s being studied in the one room they can’t gain access to.
@Leigh_Phillips We would still be detecting the evidence / emissions of a civilisation advanced enough to get to this point. It’s biology that explains the Fermi paradox
@SIGMAPROFESSOR Einstein was a patent clerk, not a plumber. STEM geniuses rarely emerge from manual labouring groups. It’s different for writing, music etc
@cnw20xx@parallel235@CalumDouglas1 Agreed, but in an alternative history where Trotsky is the leader he and Tucachevsky decide to try and take out the Nazi threat preemptively. Whether that works, and how the Western Allies react, is a different question.
@parallel235@CalumDouglas1 The French would have just had their asses kicked, as 1940 showed. The only real force that might have been capable of preemptively stopping the Nazis was a Trotsky-led Soviet Union, and that would have presented its own set of issues (to put it mildly).
