@kendrictonn I know what you’re talking about, and it’s probably why my favorite of his is Pattern Recognition, where the floaty disconnection is the mood being evoked.
@aceniederhoff She got a body like oil money:

Only knows one kind of club (country),

@goblinodds@MunicipleOrrery Also Obama was kind of the peak of “secular messianic figure” imagery and if it wasn’t him it’s hard to argue that it’s Joe Biden.
@goblinodds Impossible to talk about without risking spoilers but I’ll try: Have you gotten to the part with the pop star and the satellite yet? Incredible.
@goblinodds There are two very different approaches to “watching any whatever’s on” that the poll elides.
One is “just want to see a good match”appreciation.
And one is becoming a fierce partisan of an Eastern European tennis player you’ve never heard of within ten seconds of sitting down.
@repligate@_skaface_ Obvious subtext of this is that it’s made to be delegated to as a subagent, right? Previous Claudes have been less than happy about both sides of that interaction.
@kendrictonn I learned two things driving in Kinshasa (well, two things relevant to this): 1, what struck me as anarchic was actually individual social negotiations conducted with exactly this body language, and 2, my default posture was basically exposing my belly and throat.
@goblinodds@selentelechia Have you head the term “third culture kids”? It’s basically this: people who changed cultures while growing up and saw the changes explicitly.
I was a missionary kid and we have more in common with military brats than with pastors kids, for instance.
@MartinShkreli Notice that Lal is the faction that represents the globalist NGOacracy, and that at the time SMAC was made, it was obvious that he would be pro-freedom of information. Huge ideological shift.
@hradzka <exposition>. “Are you telling me that <exposition>, you idiot?” Her voice rose. It seemed like <exposition> had made her angry.
@hradzka One writer I know is fond of pointing out that foreign "private criminal hacking groups" often have members who were, until very recently, members of intelligence services, and who have probably not stopped talking to their former bosses.
@plzbepatient Anakin: We should not be spending money to fortify individual lampposts against copper theft.
Padme: Because the payback time on an individual lamppost is so long?
Anakin:
Padme:
@xenocryptsite Buff dog/ashamed dog? Opinion.
Two buttons sweating? Obtuse.
Virgin and Chad? Opinion.
Scholar and butterfly? Obtuse.
Despite being about people being obtuse, "Fix Everything Switch" is opinion.
@xenocryptsite I like this format because to pull it off you need both a simplifying dichotomy and an apparent exception. Most meme formats simplify into "My opinion good, your opinion bad" or "Someone's being intentionally obtuse".
