PMO summoned Meta officials yesterday under the pretext of PM Modi's video takedown. But the real motive was to tighten the grip around Genz & anti-govt content.

Anything remotely critical of PM Modi gets taken down instantly, even if you don't name him.

Several of my Instagram posts have been restricted in India, where I satarized him without taking his name.

PM Modi was never a tolerate person, but now his insecurity is increasing with his age. He loves it when people call him tough, but fears of being mocked. Meta seems to get along with him atleast for now.

The reality of the situation is far more severe than it appears on the surface.

There is a systemic manipulation of journalism in India. The government frequently issues direct orders to platforms like Meta and X to erase images and videos. Even if you practice genuine, on-the-ground journalism or simply record an event, the state can have it wiped from the internet, actively suppressing any dissenting voices.

Take the state of a small place in India, called Manipur. The government has essentially turned a blind eye to a civil conflict that has been raging there for years, leaving the region to burn. Bomb blasts and missile strikes have become a daily reality.

In one deeply harrowing incident there, two women were stripped naked and paraded through the streets by a massive mob of men who harassed and cheered at them. This sparked massive public outrage and demands for accountability, the government's response was to manufacture a distraction. And then immediately ordered the erasure of all video evidence from the internet, making it very difficult to find today.

The world is a witness to the protest that happened over the past month in India, and there are many more coming up soon. Yet the government is actively suppressing coverage of them. They are determined to keep this unrest out of the public eye.

Meanwhile, far-right extremists are conducting online witch hunts against young people, a narrative heavily amplified by state-aligned media. These extremists are freely sending death and rape threats to young children, GIRLS! A tactic seemingly permitted as a way to "teach them a lesson." And this is being shown LIVE, regularly, on the National Television.

And the response to all of this? The Prime Minister is busy posting social media reels every day. Only after immense public anger led to mass reporting did Meta eventually, and accidentally, take them down.
