There is a Pakistani cricketer. He lies not only about his age but also his place of birth. He exploits the fact that Af-Pak is one of the most underdeveloped regions of the world and most people born here do not have birth certificates. Knowing fully well that Pakistani nationality bars him from playing IPL, he moved to Afghanistan. He claimed an origin story that he was originally from Afghanistan and was only 'forced' to move to Pakistan following the war. Ridiculously, the story line ends up implying that he 'went back' to Afghanistan during the same ongoing war. A new report from #CaliforniaCivilRights department compiles/analyzes one year of data from their “CA vs Hate” hotline, and has some startling data. Nearly a QUARTER of reported hate incidents in the religion category targeted HINDUS! Anti-Jewish incidents topped the list at 36.9%, with anti-Hindu hate incidents coming 2nd and accounting for 23.3% while anti-Muslim incidents were at 14.6%.

The disturbing data in this report vindicates what CoHNA has been saying for the last few years. It echoes the findings of academic reports from institutions like @ncri_io. And validates the lived experiences of many of us in the Hindu community, who have seen #bigotry and #hate against us glossed over, explained away and even denied.

It should serve as a wake-up call to the many academics and institutions and experts who have decried the existence of #Hinduphobia - terming it a political/right wing or manufactured issue. We hope this can serve to end the gaslighting we have faced for simply asking for equal treatment and empathy.

Over the past few years and months, CoHNA has worked to draw attention to the horror of SIX Hindu temples attacked in just the Bay Area in two months. We are advocating for the passage of H. Res 1131 -the Hinduphobia Resolution introduced by @RepShriThanedar . And just yesterday, the very first Hindu Advocacy in New Jersey focussed on the need to pass SCR104 - recognizing Hinduphobia in the state.

We ask for an urgent escalation to study, recognize and tackle this growing menace of #Hinduphobia!
