Building DU for the Future: Prof. Yogesh Singh and the Infrastructure of Academic Scale
“A university becomes future-ready only when policy finds physical and digital spaces through which students can learn, research, perform, debate and grow.”
My article in ThePrint looks at Delhi University’s transformation under Prof. Yogesh Singh from the perspective of infrastructure and academic scale. DU’s recent changes are often discussed through CUET, NEP 2020, UGCF, FYUP, digital admissions and academic reform; however, the physical and digital infrastructure of a public university is equally central to meaningful reform.
Classrooms, laboratories, smart classes, cultural spaces, auditoriums, sports facilities and public gathering spaces give policy a living academic foundation. Delhi University’s future-readiness, therefore, lies not only in administrative reform, but also in its intellectual, technological, cultural and physical capacity.
Prof. Yogesh Singh’s leadership matters here because DU’s transformation is not one-dimensional. CUET changed admission. NEP changed academic structure. UGCF and FYUP changed the undergraduate imagination. But infrastructure gives these reforms a working foundation.
A student admitted through CUET ultimately needs a classroom. A student studying under NEP needs course spaces, laboratories and guidance. A student developing creativity needs cultural platforms. A student seeking holistic education needs sports and public spaces.
Delhi University’s infrastructure therefore reflects the leadership of academic scale. Under Prof. Yogesh Singh, DU is not only carrying inherited prestige; it is preparing itself for the future. Its classrooms, laboratories, smart classes, cultural centers, stadiums and auditoriums show that a great public university must be built intellectually, physically, culturally and technologically at the same time.

The story of the Tatas has achieved the status of folklore in India, yet we need to revisit it again and again to fully understand the nuances of the decisions its leadership took over the years, decisions which critics often saw as ‘costly distractions’. The Tatas remain one of the finest examples of Indian entrepreneurship, firmly rooted in ethics and nation-building. @thetribunechd@UnivofDelhi@AICTE_INDIA
The improvement in the QS World University Rankings 2027 reflects the collective efforts of all our stakeholders. The continued rise in our global standing demonstrates the strength of our academic ecosystem. I am particularly delighted to see the improvement in Citations per Faculty from 403 to 318 (▲85 positions), reflecting the growing quality, visibility, and impact of the University's research output. Congratulations to all, and kudos to our faculty. @UnivofDelhi
The University of Delhi has secured a global rank of 322 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 (up from 328 in 2026). The University continues to retain 1st position among the Indian universities and remains 7th overall. Congratulations! @YeDesHaiMera@dpradhanbjp@EduMinOfIndia
“From Cut-Offs to CUET: How Delhi University Rewrote India’s Admission Imagination,” has been published in ThePrint on 08 June 2026.
The article reflects on Delhi University’s important transition from the old cut-off system to CUET and the Common Seat Allocation System. This shift is not merely a technical reform in admission procedure; it signals a deeper national movement from board-mark anxiety to a more standardized, digital and preference-based admission culture.
For decades, DU admissions were associated with impossible cut-offs, anxiety, and unequal comparison across different school boards. CUET has changed the question before students. It is no longer only about how much they scored, but also about how wisely they navigate choices, preferences and opportunities.
Prof. Yogesh Singh ,Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, has rightly stressed that CUET has created a “level playing field” for students from different boards and regions. More importantly, he has pointed out that DU classrooms are now witnessing greater representation, with students from small towns, villages and diverse socio-economic backgrounds entering the university in larger numbers.
This, I believe, is the real meaning of Delhi University’s admission transformation.

@narendramodi@PMOIndia@UnivofDelhi
#BhagatSinghJayanti @narendramodi@PMOIndia@UnivofDelhi
