The funny thing is this is actually more true for Google search than it is for modern LLMs but these people will tell you to prefer Google search over LLMs.

If you’re a good researcher you can use it as a web search tool assistant and basically just save time on research you’d have done yourself. It’s not lower quality than going out and doing the same searches manually.

people often say that libraries couldn't be invented in the modern day because "who would want to pay taxes to give out free books" but the real answer is that they would not survive the slightest contact with copyright law

Piracy would have allowed AI companies to train their models without destroying rare books, and piracy is how many rare books will survive the AI companies destroying the physical copy to train their models. There is a clear moral to this story for those with the ears to hear it.

the worst part of this is the copyright bullshit that made it necessary. in a better world, libgen would be a public service on par with wikipedia, the anthropic library would be open source, and claude would be able to recite books for me and directly quote source material.
