Unpopular opinion, there is more skill/nuance in tournament poker than in cash games. People regularly punt away more EV here at the WSOP that you will see in your cash games
The World Series of Poker. The most prestigious poker series in the world. Where you have to coach rookie dealers how to do their job in the middle of big pots and then teach them how to count how much you owe when you lose. Great experience.
Everyone telling me my 10J ship was bad. I get it. Think everyone knows I don’t play via charts. I had 8 bb and I knew it was light but I choose to attack the 2nd shortest stack bb. Right or wrong it was my choice and I am fine with it. Be happy that you are better at poker than me. If I can win the main event, a triton and countless other events imagine what you could do.
BREAKING: All charges against myself, my partners, and the Lodge have been officially rejected.
The seized money and equipment will be returned and we will reopen as quickly as possible, hopefully within a few weeks.
The Grand Jury in Williamson county heard the allegations against us, and refused to authorize proposed charges.
Justice has prevailed.
The damage to our staff and members has been tremendous, and it is now time to rebuild.
We will be putting together a kickoff event in the near future.
In the words of a great man: “you gotta know when to hold'em”
I’m not going to lie. Think this is a massive moment for poker. For something that is male-dominated and can be intimidating for a woman to play until recently, having one of the biggest celebs on the planet telling her following—go out and play some poker, that’s so damn cool.
I do pity Chalamet. He’s got talent coming out of his eyeballs, he’s charismatic, he’s a marketing genius.
But it’s so damn hard to sell original films in 2025. I hate the general public. I’m sure it’ll do well but 30 years ago this would be doing crazy numbers
Why it doesn’t make sense for poker tournaments to be taxed:
Collectively, the only revenue being generated is by the house.
They win, but collectively there is no income for players.
Example:
100 players put up $1000 and an extra $100 for the house.
15 of those 100 players will show a profit that day, but the sum total of the 100 players is a loss.
If winners and losers all filed their taxes appropriately for that event, the government earns nothing from the players and is just buried in unnecessary paperwork.
The house earning revenue should pay their fair share of taxes, of course, but taxing a group of people that are net losing money isn’t right.
If you are taxing the house and the winning players, you are just double dipping.
