Great piece by @zmarshman@DrPeterDay about the importance of supervised toothbrushing. @apsmilestars has been delivering this programme across #BlackburnwithDarwen since 2022. Over this time we have seen the decay rates in 5 year olds fall from 51% to 38.4%. #brushingworks!
Really pleased to see the government commitment to supervised toothbrushing. The @apsmilestars
programme has shown how effective this can be. In just three years #BlackburnwithDarwen has seen a huge improvement in children's decay rates from 51% to 38.4%

Remember our 3 key messages:
1. Brush 2xdaily -bedtime & 1 other time.
2. Use fluoride toothpaste.
3. After brushing, spit but don't rinse.

Thanks to everyone that attended the workshop exploring the Oral health needs of #ASR groups in the UK- part of #RefugeeWeek @UCLan co-hosted by @GRACE_UCLan. This is an important but overlooked area, so it was wonderful to unpack it with activists, academics and practitioners!🪥
I have contributed to this article in my efforts to highlight the shocking state of affairs ongoing in NHS dentistry.
We must continue to fight for an overhaul of the NHS dental contract to avoid this crisis worsening by the day.

Its #NationalMilkDay and did you know it is one of the safest drinks for teeth along with water this is because they are not acidic like fizzy or sugary drinks which can cause harm to your teeth.

Thanks @Kate_HollernMP and @prasad_jonathon for supporting NHS dentistry. Already we are seeing the huge impact that supervised toothbrushing is making to children in #blackburnwithdarwen thanks to funding from @BwDPH.
Today, I will be voting for Labour’s Dentistry Rescue Plan to support the future of NHS dentistry and provide it with the staff, technology, resources, and reform it so desperately needs.
Dentistry must no longer be treated as an optional extra.
Dental Professionals will tell you that the safest drinks for teeth are plain milk & water but do you know why?
"Sugar Free", "Zero" & "No Added Sugar" drinks can still damage your teeth! All drinks with a pH lower than 5.5 should be consumed in moderation at mealtimes only.
Since the introduction of the #apsmilestars programme in #BlackburnwithDarwen in 2022 we have seen an increase in the number of children reporting that they are brushing regularly. Blackburn with Darwen has also seen an improvement in decay rates for 2-5 year olds. @NHSChildsmile
Dental decay causes pain & school absences disproportionately affecting poorer children.
Evidence from @NHSChildsmile in Scotland shows supervised toothbrushing improves child oral health saving more than it costs (reduced treatments) @guardian@UKLabour
