Because E-SPLOST funds can only be used for capital improvements—not day-to-day operating expenses—it allows APS to invest in projects that directly support student success, including school renovations, new construction, technology upgrades, transportation improvements, and enhanced safety and security measures.
As part of the proposed transformative renovations, the swimming pool at Hollis Innovation Academy would undergo a significant upgrade, expanding access to swimming for APS students and the community.

Briana Wilson wanted to contribute to the growth of our tiniest learners, and that's exactly what she did. What began as a student teacher assignment blossomed into an opportunity to become a kindergarten teacher. Over the years, her talent has proven that her gift is undeniable. She earned the title of Atlanta Public Schools Teacher of the Year, and we couldn’t be more proud. Like every educator in APS, Briana recognized that our students are curious, intelligent, and unstoppable. She’s more than an educator; she’s a champion for our students. #BecauseofAPS
This week, we’re shining the light on Annette Smith! Better known across the district as “Smitty,” she’s a Media Specialist, Literacy Leader and Writing Advocate who brings learning, creativity, and storytelling to life!
Smitty champions literacy at Benjamin E. Mays High School, recognized by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) as a Literacy Leader.
Wearing many hats, Smitty serves as Communications Ambassador, School Library Media Specialist, Yearbook and Newspaper Sponsor, eNewsletter Editor, Journalism and Writing Teacher, and enthusiastic collaborator. She also leads That SW Lit Squad—a dynamic team of student storytellers, journalists, photographers, and content creators bringing the Mays experience to life! 🎥📝📸
When she’s not on the Hill, she’s Out in the Halls—capturing moments, creating videos, connecting with supporters, and championing literacy alongside her Lit Squad. From the classroom to the community, Smitty shows scholars that literacy is more than reading and writing—it’s about finding your voice, sharing your story, and making an impact!
Thank you, Smitty, for your commitment to our scholars. Your presence makes a difference, your passion inspires, and the connections you build help students find their voices and tell their stories!

Schedule study sessions for classes before the week of the test. Studying over time is a much better plan for success on tests than cramming the week or night before. Give your brain time to digest information, and you’ll be surprised how much better you know the material–not just for the test, but for a lifetime of knowledge. #AtlantaPublicSchools
Happy Emotional Wellness Month!
Taking care of our emotions is just as important as taking care of our bodies. This month, let’s remember to talk about our feelings, support one another, and make time for things that help us feel our best. 🧠
It’s okay to talk. It’s okay to ask for help. You are not alone. 🤝✨
❤️🗳️ Democracy Fest reminded us that every voice matters! From students and families to staff and community members, we came together to celebrate civic engagement and the power of participation. Now, with early voting underway, we’re encouraging eligible APS students and young voters to stay informed, get involved, and make their voices heard. Voting is an opportunity to participate in shaping the future of our communities and the issues that impact our lives. Your voice matters, your participation counts, and your future is worth showing up for! #AtlantaPublicSchools

🏫✨ New spaces, new possibilities, and so much to celebrate at L.P. Miles Elementary School! 💛💙 The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked an exciting milestone as students, staff, families, and community partners came together to celebrate the school’s newly renovated spaces. A welcoming, inspiring school environment helps students feel proud of where they learn and excited about what lies ahead. Seeing the joy on our students’ faces reminds us why this work matters!
These capital improvements are more than upgrades to a building they are E-SPLOST funding at work! #AtlantaPublicSchools

📚✨ It’s National Literacy Month, and we’re excited to celebrate D’Eric Mitchell, a student from Midtown High School, who is working to make books more accessible to his community!
Through the High School Student Voice Impact Mini-Grants, D’Eric Mitchell is turning his idea into action with Project Literacy. His vision is to bring a Little Free Library to CLL, creating more opportunities for students to discover new books and develop a love of reading and writing. 📖
And he’s thinking even bigger! D’Eric hopes to expand Project Literacy to underserved communities and more APS schools, while introducing reading incentives and writing challenges to inspire students to read, write, and share their ideas.
This is the power of student voice and the impact of a great idea! 💙📚 #NationalLiteracyMonth #AtlantaPublicSchools #StudentVoice
