English Teacher. โFor what itโs worth: itโs never too late, or in my case, too early to be who you want to beโ - F. Scott Fitzgerald ๐๐ฝ๏ธโ๏ธ๐บ๐ฆ
R.I.P. Paul Auster.
"If nothing else, the years have taught me this: if thereโs a pencil in your pocket, thereโs a good chance that one day youโll feel tempted to start using it." In a piece from 1995, Auster answers the question "why write?"

@LorraineDillo14@ciaraquill@Gearoid_OBrien@ashjclery@Tumedel I like that alliteration, Lorraine! Hope you survived the correcting. Reading an oldie by Sarah Winman for book club Iโm in, and really enjoying it. Bringing me back to what we thought or worried about as kids.
@PremierviewPod@CBSNenagh Fantastic!! Weโre all so PROUD here in @CBSNenagh , first time winning the Dean Ryan Cup. Well done to a super squad & management team ๐๐๐ช

@LorraineDillo14@ashjclery@Tumedel@Gearoid_OBrien@ciaraquill@INOTEnews 2/2 Chidgey is new to me & was recently shortlisted for Dublin Literary prize. The fear of being the bystander strongly comes across, only 150 pgs in. Going to be a harrowing but compelling read. Will report back, hope book-clubbing teachers settling back well to school life๐ค๐
@LorraineDillo14@ashjclery@Tumedel@Gearoid_OBrien@ciaraquill@INOTEnews Currently reading a fantastic but harrowing book Remote Sympathy by Catherine Chidgey kindly lent to me by @cait_riain Horrors of the Holocaust is the background to this restrained, highly structured narrative.Three principal characters tell their story in an archival format.1/2
@LorraineDillo14@ashjclery@Tumedel@Gearoid_OBrien@ciaraquill@INOTEnews Also read The Garnett Girls, took a while for me to warm to the aforementioned sisters & matriarch of the family (never saw so much drinking in one novel ๐ ) but wanted to find out the secret one of the sisters is hiding. Very enjoyable, easy/breezy read.
@LorraineDillo14@ashjclery@Tumedel@Gearoid_OBrien@ciaraquill@INOTEnews Just to say I finished Baldwinโs Go Tell it on the Mountain..boy, an intense read! Set in a church service on one particular day, narrated by each character in turn. Essentially, a painful depiction of a misguided, at times dangerous father through the eyes of his son.
@cait_riain@ashjclery@LorraineDillo14@Gearoid_OBrien@Tumedel All read, Catherine, thank you SO much and back in the bag, ready to return. Enjoyed them so much, you have great taste as I always tell you! The book club should just go with your picks. ๐

Read this cracker Assembly, a debut novel in one sitting last wk (only 100 pgs) about a successful Black woman, exhausted trying to live within colonial structure of modern Britain. Sharp, subversive & shocking.
