Whether President @HassanSMohamud chooses an ostrich approach to Somalia’s mounting crises, or his sycophants and cyber parrots waste time trading insults with fellow leaders, the country’s problems cannot be ignored.
The joint press conference by the two former presidents (@SharifShAhmed@M_Farmaajo) comes at the perfect time. It not only highlights the gravity of the current political impasse but also extends a sincere invitation to the incumbent for genuine dialogue on a viable electoral model, national security, unity, stable politics, and a peaceful transfer of power.
Failing to accept this good-faith gesture from his predecessors risks plunging Somalia into deeper turmoil, opening the door to external interventions that will undermine our sovereignty and independence.

@BalalCusman Indeed, the press conference by the two former head of state highlighted the gravity of the deepening political crises in 🇸🇴 which requires an immediate action for salvaging the country from relapse to the civil war and further disintegration.
It is profoundly saddening and utterly unacceptable to witness President @HassanSMohamud’s political maneuvers pushing Somalia toward bloody armed conflict in Mogadishu and Baidoa.
Our people are among the poorest and most resilient in Africa and have endured decades of hardship. They lack basic public services, struggle daily to put food on the table, and face constant insecurity. Yet they deserve peace, dignity, respect, and a chance at a better life. Not more elite power struggles.
The current violence must stop immediately. Enough is enough.
President Hassan Sheikh must resign and allow a peaceful transition. Somalia urgently needs an interim technocratic, apolitical government; one free from clan patronage and personal ambition to focus on what truly matters:
• Building strong, accountable institutions
• Restoring trust between citizens and the state
• Advancing genuine democratization and one-person-one-vote elections
• Prioritizing security, economic recovery, and service delivery
Our country cannot afford another cycle of division that distracts from the real enemies: Al-Shabaab, poverty, corruption, and institutional collapse. Federal member states, opposition leaders, civil society, and elders must come together for national dialogue not confrontation.
Somalia’s future should not be held hostage by one man’s extended term. The Somali people have sacrificed too much. It is time for leadership that puts the nation first.
We call on all stakeholders, regional governments, and international partners to support de-escalation and a legitimate transitional process.

President @HassanSMohamud has failed the exam he set for himself.
His first paper-the so-called 1P1V pilot in Southwest @KGS — was full of flaws: contradictory, messy, rushed, and lacking genuine consensus. Yet he is not only adamantly declaring this shameful exam a success, but is also forcing its implementation nationwide at the cost of human lives, economic damage, and the political reputation of this deeply divided country still recovering from decades of protracted armed conflict.
What a genius PhD holder and experienced national leader we have!!.
Somalia deserves better than imposed experiments that deepen divisions instead of building legitimate federal democracy.

My sincere advice to @edwinsifuna is to run for president of the Republic of Kenya in 2027. Like many countries in Africa, youth are yearning for change, and youthful leaders like Sifuna can resonate with Gen Z. Cognizant of his eloquence, charisma, and advocacy for a better Kenya, he can transcend tribal politics, unite the country, and create hope for the youth across regions, ethnic divisions, and faiths. So far, I don’t see other politicians in Kenya who have the potential to unseat incumbent President @WilliamsRuto.
Amid Somalia's deepening divisions, eroding sovereignty, & the failures of the post-Arta system which promotes kleptocracy, zero-sum politics, & internal conflicts, we must break the vicious cycle of violence, dyfunctionalism, fragmentation & dependency for external support.
Cognizant of the feebleness of the state, the paranoid leadership of President @HassanSMohamud and the dangers from external actors exploiting internal divisions, I support @abdiwelisheikh
's call for a neutral, apolitical caretaker administration to deliver credible 2026 elections, restore state-citizen trust, unite the nation, & defend our integrity while initiating a Somali-led solution to Somali problems!

Due to its strategic location and the absence of unified political leadership and means to defend against external aggression, the Somali people became vulnerable to division by European colonial powers—Britain, France, and Italy and the expansionist Ethiopian empire.
Today, history is repeating itself. Somalis are once again divided from every direction. Decades of elite failure, coupled with persistent foreign interference in internal affairs, have fueled perpetual fragmentation and intractable political conflict, preventing meaningful, inclusive, and dialogical reconciliation.
As a result, Somalis have struggled to build consensus on the country’s future, harness one of the world’s longest coastlines, or benefit from vast unexploited oil, gas, and mineral resources. Instead, repeated missteps have created a cycle of growing humanitarian crises and damaged the country’s image, labeling a naturally entrepreneurial and resilient people as “unproductive or unintelligent,” “inherently poor,” or “garbage.”
While some engage in name-calling, stereotyping, and divisive rhetoric, others actively stoke deeper hatred and conflict. Despite superficial progress in certain regions, the current trajectory is unsustainable. Without wisdom, foresight, and a genuine nationalist agenda, the consequences will be painful and long-lasting, affecting generations to come.
Somalis deserve better. The moment for unity, honest reflection, and collective purpose is now.

People with Ph.D. titles, like yourself, and even figures like Abiy Ahmed, might lack solid research skills and understanding. Let's simplify things: If "British Somaliland" is so strong and united, what's holding it back? In the North of Somalia, there are about five tribes, and no single clan can control the whole region. Sometimes, one clan tries to take charge by telling stories that favor them, even if they're just a small part of the broader Issaq community. Some folks spread misinformation by claiming the North was an independent nation before joining Somalia. Back in 1960, each tribe in "British Somaliland" had its own deal with the British, except the Dhulbahante tribe. These Protection Treaties, signed between 1884 and 1886, help explain the historical context. That there was never a United British Somaliland that each tribe had its own agreement with the British. There was no Somaliland flag, no Somaliland national anthem, no Somaliland emblem, no Somaliland constitution, no Somaliland Head of State and no Somaliland Cabinet. All these paraphernalia belonged to the Somali Republic, which was born out of the merger. Almost all in the North tribes support unity with Somalia, except of one tribe. They're all in with #Somalia.
Well said, @senator_farah. President @HassanSMohamud has failed to lead this country, and no amount of appointments can salvage the nation from the current dangerous situation. However, it is worth noting that even if the president appoints the most qualified and competent individuals, his self-centered attitude, personalization, and micro-management of public offices will obstruct any professional work.
On the floor of the House, a Member of Parliament has all rights and immunities to express his political and legal views freely, without intimidation or interference from other members or the executive branch of the government. It is pathetic to see some MPs, with the support of the Speaker, trying to silence a fellow member who wanted to mention President @HassanSMohamud's leadership, which contributed to the current state of affairs.
The most suitable solution for the current situation in Somalia 🇸🇴 is the resignation of President @HassanSMohamud and the election of a capable, visionary leader by the federal parliament. This leader could unite the people and country in one direction against Zionist aggression and ill-motivated divisions aimed at using part of Somalia as a battleground. Unfortunately, President Hassan Sheikh lacks the integrity to build national consensus and a unified direction for the country.

Germany is once again a united, prosperous, and strong federal republic, a miracle after the horrors I witnessed in Berlin. This city, epicenter of World War II and the Cold War, still carries the weight of history: remnants of the Wall that tore families apart, and the haunting Holocaust Memorial honoring six million Jews and millions of others systematically murdered, not for any crime, but simply for being Jewish, Romani, disabled, or different. Seeing how Germany rose from total division and moral collapse into a stable, inclusive federal state gives profound hope. Only a few pieces of that hateful Wall remain. May we always choose reconciliation and humanity over division and hatred. When I think of the failing, violent federal experiments in Somalia and Ethiopia, we must urgently learn from Germany’s success: never demonize or kill people because of clan or ethnicity, and build federal systems that truly protect diversity while ensuring unity, justice, and strength.

Following in the footsteps of our founding fathers, SYL, Somali Gen Z is leading a powerful new wave of unity, boldly rejecting the clannish (qabiil) politics and social divisions that have plagued Somalia for decades. At the forefront is the inspiring’ “Jiilmideysan” movement—a youth-driven initiative meaning "United Generation" in Somali—championizing national identity, merit-based leadership, and progress over tribal loyalties.
This fresh spirit builds on historical efforts, like the Anti-Tribalism Movement, but feels distinctly Gen Z: amplified on social media, fueled by diaspora voices, and focused on civic education, inter-clan dialogue, and reclaiming a unified Somalia 🇸🇴. From online campaigns to grassroots activism, young Somalis are declaring: enough with the cycles of division that fuel dysfunction, poverty, and conflict.

As Plato warned, indifference invites evil rulers. Hobbes reminded us that words without power are empty. These truths echo today: Emirates’ ruthless “Global Connectivity Agenda” exploits Sudan, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia, sucking their resources like leeches.
Ants devour larger prey when it loses power, vision, and will to defend itself. Likewise, nations without clear agendas become like wild dogs and insects, chaotic, vulnerable, and easy prey. Emirates’ exploitative connectivity fuels violence, draining once-strong nations of their vitality, leaving them swarmed, consumed, and discarded like a one-day meal.
Haybad is a political entity ready to participate in the federal electoral process and they have the right to vie for presidency or other positions of the country. The judgement for Haybad’s suitability for national leadership should come from voters/ 12th federal Parliament NOT a politician with different opinion or interests.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Raila Odinga, an icon of peace and democracy in Kenya and Africa. My heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Kenya, and the entire continent. As an opposition leader, he courageously steered Kenya away from violent civil war, fostering unity and progress. I hope the Luo community will honor his extraordinary legacy by embracing a young, energetic leader who will follow his vision and footsteps, ensuring his legacy endures. May his soul rest in peace
