Yesterday we met a male, juvenile white shark! He was 8’11” long & approx. 434lbs. We named him Simon after St Simon's Island, an island off the Georgia coast, near where we met him.

White sharks are southbound & so are we! OCEARCH is embarking on our 44th #whiteshark research expedition to learn more about these animals as they migrate to the southeast of the US for their winter residency. Expedition Southbound will take place from Nov 28 - Dec. 14!

Ultrasounds are included in the health assessments of the white sharks we study on the lift. The imaging of the sharks’ hearts and reproductive organs is vital to our research efforts and helps us assess the animal’s overall health and stage of life.

MEET CRYSTAL!

Crystal is a 10ft & 460lb female juvenile white shark. She was named after NC’s Crystal Coast, a stretch of beaches in the southern outer banks located near where we were able to sample & tag her.
