I’m an oncologist and I love my job. But I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing our patients with cancer and I’m striking because I know first-hand that the NHS is failing its workforce. https://t.co/Liv26cn8Or #ConsultantsStrike
- Severe hypothermia causes K to move into cells - rewarm only and the K will fix itself.
- Surfactant is lost/damaged during drowning so giving it can help you ventilate the drowned child
#neptune23 learning points:
- Rotation is the biggest issue in finger injuries.
- Primary mechanism blast injuries is the shockwave - high pressure impact, hot, bounces inside buildings.
- TBI is by far the biggest paeds trauma (Don’t forget trauma (NAI) in babies < 4 months.)
- Don’t underestimate how many nurses you need in resus!
- Temperature management is vital… our tx tend to make them cold!!
- Chest compressions + adrenaline may not be useful in traumatic cardiac arrest - main thing needed is to replace volume and turn off the tap
@DurrantNiall I’m 20 min cycle from work and it’s been fine at midnight - much more reliable than the late buses and the tram stops fairly close to midnight so I’ve missed that a few times!!
@DurrantNiall @adamsonjon@DrNickTwit@paedsem@drdanmagnus@Damian_Roland Hey Niall! I’m in the PEM post at Nottingham, heard that might be relevant to you… not sure when deadlines are but if you are still deciding and wanna chat drop me a DM. (Just finishing a night so might not reply till evening!)
@askryanair We were on FR9015 which was cancelled in June. We've tried to claim compensation but your website doesn't recognise our booking reference. When we emailed we got a generic response telling us to use the website! Can you help us get started on the claim?
@BeckyPlatt3 Interesting. I don't tell them to "be brave" but I do often say "it does hurt a little bit, but I know you can handle it because I can see you are a very brave person." slightly different angle but I find that is ok to say!
@TessaRDavis My preferred approach is to write quite detailed slides to solidify in my own mind what we will cover. This version I keep to share after. I then edit off as much of the text I think I safely can, leaving only diagrams, images, and titles or brief bullet points.
@mirandajewess 😂 Apart from judgement... probably not much as long as they're breathing air in between - it disappears really quickly. There's a few major complications but they only occur sporadically...
@ollieburtonmed Remove tea bag from plastic cup of boiling tea without burning yourself. (Asking for a teaspoon = automatic fail as proves you've not spent time on NHS wards)
@ShivaniM_KC I find many adolescents really enjoy a bit of a dry or dark joke and (if it's your thing) some mildly bad language. Its a social signal that you are seeing them as an adult and including them in adult conversation.
@ShivaniM_KC And def respect his boundaries about physical affection. Adolescents are often only just being permitted full agency over their own body and understandably defensive of that.
