Farai’s talk really makes me think about things I’ve heard in the past - I grew up in a culture that values a respect of elders and the importance of modesty, and yet I often get feedback that I am not proud of my own work. I am. Is it not just a difference in culture? #dcc18

We talk about these big companies messing up and having questionable ethics and we can laugh about it because ‘that’s not us’. But reality is that a lot of us work for big corporations. We need to use our voice to change this culture. We need to take responsibility. #dcc18

It’s true, I’ve heard a lot from other designers that design systems can feel stifling. Maybe we should stop looking at it as rigid guidelines, and more like the different colors of paint on your palette that you can mix and match together to paint the picture you want? #dcc18

You know talking about reading conprehension problems makes me really think about how my immigrant parents experience the English speaking world. How can I design content that my parents would be able to easily understand? #dcc18

I might not have a permanent cognitive disability, but dealing with migraines and lack of sleep is a constant struggle on a day to day basic. I’ve just never thought of it as a temporary disability. I should really start using that feeling as a point of empathy. #dcc18

We have a responsibility as designers not ONLY to understand how people are using our products in other countries but also to really understand the deeper context behind what it is about their lives that informs how they interact with the world. #dcc18
