The favorite part of my day is pulling up at the gate & immediately hearing my boys joyous voices. As soon as the gate opens, I see them already outside barefoot, jumping up and down, shouting, 'Dad's home, Dad's home!' Why wouldnโt I want to give them the best?

Don't be too friendly and don't smile a lot. There is no need to be nice to everyone, and also, don't be cruel.
At the end of the day, those who are the only ones who deserve your undying niceness.
I still hold on to my belief; don't go out of your way to help anyone. Unless you have the tools to help them at your discretion and you aren't making sacrifices. Then you can go ahead confidently and help. If not, don't feel the pressure to help.
Put your brain first, after which your heart can follow. The heart's job is meant to pump blood. You got no business meddling in one's critical thoughts and decision making.
