Update on my Mom.
I officially got home from Florida last night. My brother, Jeff, drove down to Jacksonville to take over for me.
My mother’s bilirubin levels are almost back to normal, and the jaundice continues to clear up.
She’s been put on dialysis for her kidneys, and that seems to be helping as well. The doctors at Mayo Clinic explained that it may or may not be permanent—it all depends on whether her kidneys recover. They still have some function, just not enough to clear all the toxins from her body on their own.
Since her liver continues to heal, she no longer needs a liver transplant. As of yesterday (Friday), she was transferred to Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, to begin rehabilitation.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but the doctors also discovered that she had a mild stroke sometime within the last few months. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to have caused any noticeable effects. The only reason we know about it is because it showed up on her brain scans.
We still don’t know how long she’ll need to remain in Jacksonville, but she will stay there as long as necessary to continue her recovery.
While I was there, I also got her officially signed up for Medicare, so now we’re waiting for the next steps in that process.
Today was her first day outside in almost a month. (Pictured below)
Thank you all for the prayers, support, donations, messages, and encouragement throughout this journey. We truly appreciate every one of you. I’ll continue to post updates as we learn more.

I know I just uploaded a video update about my Mom last night, but I updated the gofundme me today with a little more information that we’ve learned today, so far.
Here it is:
I’ve been in Jacksonville, FL, since Sunday (05/31/2026) to see my Mother at the MAYO Clinic.
Her bilirubin levels are consistently trending down, which is good. Normal should be around 1.2, hers were WAY up when she was 1st hospitalized, to around 48.5! As of today, they are down to 7.8. We’re almost there.
Her AST and ALT levels are normal.
If her bilirubin levels continue going down and stabilize, she won’t have to have a liver transplant.
We also found out that she had a mild stroke at some point, in the last couple months. They’re not exactly sure when.
She is still doing dialysis and that seems to be helping as well. She may have to continue dialysis after she is discharged, it just depends on if her kidneys get better or not.
I was here to witness her doing some physical therapy on Monday (06/01/2026) and also today, (Wednesday 06/03/2026). I’d say she did 90% better today!
(See picture)
She may be sent to a rehab in Jacksonville after she’s discharged, whether she has a transplant or not, because either way, she’ll need physical therapy for a few weeks.
Thank you everyone for the continued support. I will update when i know more.

Update on my mother’s situation:
I’m leaving tomorrow, by myself, to spend the week with my mother at the MAYO Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
One of the biggest things I need to take care of while I’m there is getting her signed up for Medicare. In order to do that, she either needs to be present, or we need to have Power of Attorney paperwork completed. I thought she had already taken care of that — unfortunately, I was wrong. My goal is to get both of those things handled while I’m there.
I’m going to miss my family this week, but making this trip will hopefully give us a much better understanding of exactly what’s going on with her health. It will also allow me to have more control over managing her care from a distance.
Once Medicare finally kicks in, if we are still facing this situation, it may allow us to move her closer to home, back to South Carolina, where she can be near family.
We are also continuing to have a very difficult time getting her short-term disability paperwork completed. She has now gone about a month without being paid, while I am still paying her insurance premium out of pocket every two weeks.
Her primary care provider, who is a nurse practitioner, said she could not complete the paperwork because she doesn’t know enough about my mother’s condition and told us to send it to her gastroenterologist. However, the gastroenterologist — whom my mother had only seen once, on 05/11/26 — told us it needed to be completed by her primary care provider. We’ve been going back and forth between both offices with no resolution.
The Mayo Clinic told us they would have no problem filling out the paperwork once my mother is officially approved for a transplant, but not before then.
She had until 06/01/26 to submit the paperwork to qualify for short-term disability, so I called the company (Sedgwick) yesterday to request an extension. They told us an examiner would review her case and get back to us.
Everything is still very uncertain, emotionally exhausting, and getting increasingly expensive. To everyone who has donated, shared, prayed, or reached out — thank you. Your support is helping us continue fighting to save our mother and bring her home.
I’ll update everyone again as soon as I know more.

Ok.
Here’s what happened with my Mom.
I’m not begging for donations, but if you read what happened in the GoFundMe, you’ll see what a mess all this is, and when this is over, I should probably go talk to a lawyer.

@jamiedlux Thank goodness your Mom's health problems are manageable. A good doctor is a wonderful thing. Thank goodness there were people able to help you. And, there's nothing to he sorry for, nobody loves you like your Mother does not you only have 1. ✨️💖
@jamiedlux Jamie, you aren't a failure. I have been staying off of this platform, it gives me anxiety, except a couple of times a week to check on you. I am so sorry about your Mom's health troubles. Love and Blessings to your house. ✨️❤️❤️✨️
This happened today at the Coastal Grand Mall, Myrtle Beach. This is my OLD friend, Spanky. I’ve known him since i was a teenager. He got jumped by 3 guys at the mall.
He’s also currently going through chemotherapy for colon cancer.
This pisses me off…
He’s just an old punk rocker dude, around a decade older than me. He’s a good dude. Wtf
