Tourist filmed hurling rock at protected Hawaiian monk seal then brags ‘I’m rich’ and gives astonishing excuse

Igor Lytvynchuk, 38, a Ukrainian-born US citizen, was caught on video throwing a large rock at a rare Hawaiian monk seal on May 5 in Lahaina, Maui.

The seal recoiled in pain and swam away. Bystanders confronted him and he bragged he was rich enough to pay any fines.

Lytvynchuk later claimed he was only trying to protect two nearby turtles the seal was allegedly pushing off the rocks, insisting he thought the seal was being aggressive.

His lawyer said Lytvynchuk had experience with aggressive sea lions as a former fisherman and had no idea monk seals are critically endangered and protected in Hawaii.

He now faces federal charges under the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act, with up to one year in prison and $70,000 fines per count.

He appeared in Seattle court on Thursday and was released on bond; his next hearing is in Honolulu on May 27.

I had the same thought for a while. The fees could be used in way better ways that would benefit everyone instead the majority of the devs pay dex and pay for one boost and say "I did what I could, sorry" while the remaining thousands of dollars are put in the own wallet. Like bro, the traders and holders are the reason for being able to even make such sums.

Thats why I will soon launch an idea I am soon done with developing that uses the fees in a way that hasnt been before. I really hope to create something that is able to create a reward system with the fees in order to keep the relevancy consistent and not just being dependant on virality.
