I was being cheeky and woke about the colorism of the wasian discourse and my wasian cousin stroked the flaxen hair of her (2x wasian) daughter and said yessss.... she will be at the top of the hierarchy
@mrjeffu this is like the woke inversion of the perennial right-weeb reaction to translation/localization. Notable difference is that this is an unauthorized fan translation so who cares just buy the original
@Florian2021@Shiroyaksha19 okay but the audience isn't going to interact with it in that way unless it's made with a certain quality. I think it's probably more accurate to call it a style. "Iyashikei" as a "genre" is lowkey an anglo-american gloss but it still describes part of a larger aesthetic turn.
@Mick19988 The community note has identified her as a vtuber but I think that’s inaccurate. She’s a food vlogger (who uses illustrated depictions of herself in videos and merch), a YouTuber.
@0deko4head@zweikanie@Mick19988 Sara is a good example yeah—I was also thinking of Tsukino Mito who has been streaming less and vlogging more the past couple years. There are also creators/projects like @24zono_chan that are arguably vtubers but don’t stream at all.
@0deko4head@zweikanie@Mick19988 I get the sense that it is actually pretty common, but it's just content that we don't tend to associate with the larger vtubers, even though many do post vlogs.
