@CMVAHeymans The series was probably shot on 16mm, but the 35mm promotional stills looks really good. Such a shame we’ll probably never get to see the series looking like that. Instead we got poorly made upscales.

@CMVAHeymans I haven’t read that novel either. I just noticed that someone uploaded an encode of the Japanese version using the japanese broadcast audio. I wonder if it includes the scenes exclusive to the French version, though. Probably not.

@CMVAHeymans Going back to The Mysterious Cities of Gold, the most obvious inspiration is Dezaki's Takarajima. Mendoza and Silver are very similar. Esteban hopes to find his father, whereas Jim isn't looking for his, but is drawn to the sea just like his late father, who was a sailor.

@CMVAHeymans I'm not so sure about that. They're pretty different, though it's definitely possible the scene was made with Horus in mind, as the wolves are drawn in a similar way. After all, it's the first scene of one of the most influential movies in animation. What made you think of that?

@CMVAHeymans That’s interesting. When Pepero aired, Okuda and Tomino were already working on Marco. Takahata had already worked with both of them on Heidi. Also, Yoshiko Matsuo voiced Kayna in Pepero and later became the voice of Marco. Could she have been recommended by one of them?

Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song (1992)

I watched this about a week ago, but I feel like I need to show more love to this movie because it’s seriously amazing, and it’s genuinely very heartfelt and touching. The story was even written by Momoko Sakura (mangaka of Maruko-chan)

It’s ironic that the animation industry is pushing AI to maximize profits when its inevitable outcome is the destruction of the market itself. (1/4)

If the industry becomes dependent on AI, sure, it will reduce production costs, increase output, and eventually produce animation indistinguishable from human work. But that also means animation becomes something anyone can produce cheaply and instantly. (3/4)
