In Afghanistan under Taliban, women are now banned from being visible through windows or even cooking near them. The Taliban supreme leader in a new directive forbids building windows that could reveal women. This follows earlier rules silencing women entirely.
1,200 days since Taliban banned teenage girls from secondary schools. 740 days since women were banned from universities. 26 days since women were banned from medical institutes.
Today, Afghanistan is the only country in the world where female education is prohibited.
It has been 1197 days since the Taliban banned teenage girls from schools in Afghanistan. Young women are also banned from universities and workplaces under the Taliban. #LetHerLearn
Tears and cries of Afghan girls for the opening of school doors continue to flow, touching the hearts of everyone. Yet, the world remains silent in the face of all this injustice. For four years now, Afghan girls and women have been banned from attending schools and universities.
Look at the lifeless bodies of our children-killed in Pakistan’s air raid on Barmal, Paktika. And the Taliban? Silent, shameless, spineless. They claim to be Afghan, but their loyalty lies with Pakistan, not our people. This betrayal is unforgivable. I am furious. Heartbroken.
The women and girls of Afghanistan and Iran are fighting for their rights every day. They endure gender apartheid, denied education, closed medical institutions, & the suppression of free speech. Their courage & resilience must not be forgotten. We must stand with Afghan women.
The painful reality of Afghan women!
The international community, the UN, & countries worldwide have turned their lives into hashtags. The UN’s role seems to be just saying “sorry.” But have they done anything for Afghan women deprived of their rights for the past four years?

The U.S. condemns the Taliban's discriminatory edicts, which jeopardize the rights and lives of Afghan women and girls. Women’s full, equal, and meaningful participation in society is not merely a matter of equality; it is essential. We resolutely support Afghan women and girls.
We need a repeat of this scene from the Presidential palace in Damascus. To mark the end of Assad's rule and the beginning of a new era for a free Syria.

One year ago, I had the honour of delivering the 21st Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture in Johannesburg. With Mandela’s legacy in mind, I wanted to focus on a very clear and personal injustice I felt was not receiving enough attention: the erasure of Afghan women and girls under the Taliban’s brutal regime of gender apartheid.
Against the odds, Afghan activists have built a global movement to hold the Taliban accountable. Because of their efforts, governments recently agreed to advance negotiations on the crimes against humanity treaty at the UN, bringing us one big step closer to recognising gender apartheid as a crime under international law.
In 1998, at a celebration of the life of anti-apartheid leader Chief Albert Luthuli, Nelson Mandela said, ‘Real leaders must be ready to sacrifice all for the freedom of their people.’ Afghan women and girls are demonstrating their courage, determination and the real leadership Mandela described — and we must all stand with them.
In 1996, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, a top Taliban official, claimed the Taliban weren’t against women’s education. The truth? The Taliban shut down education and work opportunities for women during their first oppressive regime.
Today, their cruelty of the fascist regime continues. In their latest move, the Taliban banned Afghan women from training as midwives, forcing pregnant women to rely on male doctors for delivery.

I am deeply surprised by UNAMA's silence on the #Taliban’s latest ban preventing women from studying at medical institutes. While a condemnation may not be expected, silence is inexcusable. Advocacy demands action, not passivity.
