🇺🇸 Alan Greenspan, the man who ran the Federal Reserve for nearly 2 decades, has died at 100.

His wife, NBC's Andrea Mitchell, said he passed earlier today from complications of Parkinson's.

Appointed by Reagan in 1987 and kept on by 3 presidents after, Greenspan steered the U.S. through the 1987 crash, the dot-com boom, and the longest expansion in the country's history, earning the nickname "the maestro."

His record soured later, with a 2011 federal commission faulting the deregulation he championed for helping set up the 2008 financial crisis.
