#WATCH | Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh: Stakeholders attend state-level conference on Zero Snakebite Death Initiative.
Cardiologist, Dr Jaideep C Menon says, “This project, which is also being carried out across 6 other states - including Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, and West Bengal - aims to demonstrate that snakebite deaths can be brought down to 0 within a limited area of two blocks over the next 2 years. To achieve this goal, we are bringing together diverse stakeholders from the agricultural, veterinary, education, and health services departments, alongside local self-government, and in other states, the electricity board and water authority, because eliminating deaths requires both effective, highly localised treatment and community-embedded prevention. This initiative focuses on educating communities to identify venomous snakes, recognise the sentinel signs and symptoms of a bite, and empower primary health centre doctors to feel confident treating victims…snake rescuers should be formally trained, registered, and brought under the ambit of the forest department…” (04.07)
#WATCH | Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh: Stakeholders attend state-level conference on Zero Snakebite Death Initiative.
State Programme Officer for snakebite cum Deputy Director, Health Department, Dr Umesh Bharti says, “…this is the first time different departments have come together on a single platform to address the issue of reducing deaths caused by snakebites. Snakebite management is often viewed solely as the Health Department's responsibility, yet many factors are involved. The objective of bringing together various departments, such as agriculture, horticulture, and the Forest Department, is to tackle the issue comprehensively, starting from the village level where farmers are most frequently affected. The goal of reducing snakebite-related deaths by 50% by 2030 can only be achieved if all departments contribute their share…the Forest Department shared a helpline number…” (04.07)

Until recently farmers in #Himachal did not fully reap benefits of their productive land even with escalating costs. The reason: the deterioration of soil owing to the overuse of #pesticides, #fertilizers. #climateresilient#ClimateCrisis
