Grammy-winning label dedicated to the acoustic era of recording--the 1890s through 1925. We rescue, preserve, and contextualize the world's oldest records.
It's been 4 weeks since the big night, so tonight we're plugging into our once-yearly series of listening to all the #GRAMMY Album of the Year winners. This year, Beyoncé took the honors with "Cowboy Carter." We’ve been looking forward to this and it's definitely fascinating!
Thank you, @RecordingAcad! We're so incredibly proud that our box set "Centennial" was recognized in "Best Historical Album" and "Best Album Notes." This is a dream come true. #GRAMMYs
Congrats Best Historical Album winners - 'Centennial' Meagan Hennessey and Richard Martin. #GRAMMYs

Thank you, @RecordingAcad! "Centennial" is our 17th nomination in this category and first win, and we're thrilled that Ricky's work received this recognition. #GRAMMYs
Today's @washingtonpost features our new vinyl release of Louis Vasnier, "Genius of the Seventh Ward." Thanks to @geoffedgers and @RhiannonGiddens for their time and energy in discussing this invaluable addition to our understanding of recorded history!

Thrilled that @RecordingAcad has recognized "Centennial" with GRAMMY nominations in both the Best Historical Album & Best Album Notes categories. Congrats to our fellow nominees--it's an honor to be in your company.
So proud that @RecordingAcad has recognized "After Midnight" and "Centennial" with Grammy nominations for Best Album Notes. Big congrats to our two nominated authors, Tim Brooks and @RickyRiccardi, as well as their fellow nominees Lauren Du Graf, Dominic Fyfe, and Josh Kun!
1/2 Congratulations 67th #GRAMMYs Best Album Notes nominees: ‘After Midnight’ - Tim Brooks; ‘The Carnegie Hall Concert’ - Lauren Du Graf; ‘Centennial’ - Ricky Riccardi;
"Centennial" received a great review by Will Friedwald in Monday's @WSJ. "This new edition, with restoration primarily by early-audio specialist and historian Richard Martin, is easily the best these tracks have sounded since they were heard in person." https://t.co/TpX3Oi6xWe
And our first press reviews of Centennial are in: "In a year of outstanding jazz reissues... Centennial will be hard to top." Thanks, @JosephMNeff and @VinylDistrict !
Graded on a Curve: King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band, Centennial

Happy Birthday, USA--and Happy Birthday, Louis Armstrong! You can't have one without the other.
Stay tuned for a major announcement next week from Archeophone Records. #4thofJuly
In honor of Juneteenth, here's a look at our upcoming 7" single, "Genius of the Seventh Ward" by "Creole of color" Louis Vasnier. From 1891, "Thompson's Old Gray Mule" is the earliest extant recording made in New Orleans and arguably the oldest country music record in existence.
We’ve been burning the candle at both ends, getting near the finish line of our upcoming box set. Listened to CD 3 (of 4) for QA, then paused to listen to the newly-minted Album of the Year winner, “Midnights” by Taylor Swift. Read more on our FB page: https://t.co/eq9s6Rar1L
Tonight we’re spinning “Harry’s House” by Harry Styles, winner of Album of the Year at the 65th #GRAMMY Awards held on February 5, 2023 in LA. Harry prevailed in a remarkable field of TEN nominees. Besides the single, “As It Was,” this one is all new for us, and it’s fun.
The house is very fond of this record, which was a dark horse in the show’s biggest category. There’s a lot of musical variety here. And, it would appear to be the first AOY winner on Verve since Getz/Gilberto in 1965 (7th Awards). (2/2)
Tonight we’re recalling the 64th #GRAMMYs, staged late--on April 3, 2022—and in Vegas after the Omicron variant of Covid caused a postponement & relocation from LA. Album of the Year went to “We Are” by Jon Batiste, who performed a dynamic version of “Freedom” at the show. (1/2)
Tonight we’re playing the 63rd Album of the Year GRAMMY winner: “Folklore” by Taylor Swift, awarded March 14, 2021 in the thick of the pandemic. Most awards were announced via Zoom and Archeophone was up for 3. So we dressed up, Zoomed in, then went out for a burger after losing.
The ceremony was held on the same day that Kobe Bryant, whose statue is outside the Staples Center, died in a helicopter crash, along with his daughter and several others. Only a few weeks later, the world would shut down, owing to the covid-19 pandemic. Four years ago! (2/2)
Now playing: Album of the Year at the 62nd GRAMMYs, held Jan. 26, 2020 in L.A. The winner: “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” by Billie Eilish, who also won Record & Song of the Year + Best New Artist. She was the first to win all 4 since Christopher Cross in 1981. (1/2)
With sub-freezing temps outside and playoff football in the background, we’re jumping back to 2019, the year of the 61st GRAMMYs. Archeophone had *three* nominations for Best Album Notes and Album of the Year went to “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves. Stay warm, y’all!
