How YouTube is destroying its own creators
..with broken AI moderation
I'm the CEO of a YouTube production company with 50+ employees and here's what's actually happening on this platform.
Every day, thousands of creators lose monetization without any explanation. Just open X and look around, it's flooded with people complaining about the exact same thing. And that's just the people who are actually speaking up about it..
When creators try to appeal, they face AI-generated responses. No human contact and no clarity on what went wrong.
YouTube provides no criteria for demonetization. This has made it impossible to build a real business on this platform. Because at any moment, an algorithm can shut you down. And what about creators who only have one channel? They could lose everything in a single day.
Our Story
Two weeks ago, YouTube demonetized two of our channels. Our monetization was removed due to “Harmful Content Involving Minors”. I don't think I need to explain how ridiculous that is.
If this continues, our 50-person team is at risk.
Yesterday, my friends lost monetization on 10 channels at once. The reason? "Association" with one flagged channel. Before that, YouTube took away their monetization for the same reason as ours. They filed an appeal, and all their channels were demonetized.
People are genuinely scared to file appeals right now. The fear is that an automated system rejects it, and suddenly every channel you own gets flagged, demonetized, or worse. A few days ago, my friend deleted about 40 channels just to protect his main channel with a couple million subscribers.
To YouTube: We need human review. We need transparent guidelines. We need real accountability. A $550B company must do better.
To creators: If you've been affected - speak up. Share your story below. This madness must stop.
