THE LAST TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED, THE S&P CRASHED 50%…
The S&P 500 closed Friday just 0.7% below its record close. But look at what’s happening underneath…
MarketWatch reported this week that roughly 60% of its stocks were more than 20% below their all-time highs.
Researcher Jason Goepfert also flagged more stocks hitting new lows than highs while the index approaches a record.
His closest historical comparisons: January 1973 and November 1999.
The S&P eventually lost 48% in the 1973–74 bear market and 49% in 2000–02, measured peak to trough.
This does NOT mean another 50% crash is coming... just some interesting data to look at.
