โ โ ( it's a subtle order and yet scarfiotti notices, a brief nod of acknowledgment and thanks โ a deep inhale, holding before he exhales, smoke directed away from irene. )
now that you say it i can't recall ever having a proper talk. oh, what i've missed out on ..
โ
โ โ
a nod, her company's cigarette lit before her own. she inhales, smoke dispersing in a manner that makes her release a sigh of contentment.
"i feel as though we've only communicated in passing. it's nice to see someone who seems to have their shit together."
โ โ
โ
โ โ it could be worse. it could be warm.
( bottle set aside, replacing it with his own glass and a small sip to follow. )
where were we? the docks, downtown .. ah. and now the suburbs, if you'd be so kind.
โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
( ante's not shy to take the first sip, first swirling the liquid before tasting it properly. )
mm... 's no big deal. a taste like this is worth a lot more than a few ice cubes.
โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ
โ โ well. i can't divulge too much about the therapy itself at risk of your welfare but what's it that those sleep room voices say ..
ah, right โ the therapy is meant to take you out from your comfort zone. this is achieved by putting you in a catered environment.
โ
โ โ โ right. i can uh.. understand that yeah..
โ โ โ but what about the reagents? i mean.. do you ever feel.. or think about what they might feel in these places? i mean.. the weird mannequins.. the bodies and grimeโ
โ โ โ i just uh.. feel like this is one-sided, yeah?
โ
โ โ ( two glasses produced followed by a bottle of half empty whiskey, pouring each glass about halfway before returning it's cap. )
you'll have to pardon the lack of ice i have available.
โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
ah. i've got a taste for any and everything alcoholic, but i like 'em sweet. you've got good taste.
( resting his chin in his palm for the time being, content to sit and watch scarfiotti. )
โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ
โ โ ( ah. of course, the association of hendrick.
scarfiotti accepts the offered cigarette, placing it between his lips loosely. )
thank you โ you don't happen to have a light, do you?
โ
โ โ
"nonsense. i'd be happy to. i'm sure you understand why i can be a bit jumpy around substances no matter the type."
โ โ
there's a pack of cigarettes in her desk, one placed between her lips before she offers one to him.
โ โ
โ
for the trials we start with the concept of who we're making it for. let's take .. the cop for example.
in order to bring out his full potential we have to tap into what he really wants. justice, authoritative power, knowing that he's in control ..
โ
โ
โ โ proud โ it takes having a vast knowledge of both architecture and how the human mind responds to it in order to create a trial.
think of disneyland. it's crafted in such a way that everyone who goes there describes it like a fairytale and has a blast.
โ
โ โ โ lets just say both, hm?
โ โ โ [ james leans back, tilting his head some. he looks at the papers on the other's desk.. plans of trials and such. how does one even go about planning something so horrific? ]
โ โ โ sorryโ ... proud?
โ
โ โ a drink for now, i mean. do you mind bourbon? that's usually what i have on hand.
( his line of questioning temporarily ceased to pursue this new opening. )
โ
โ โ โ โ โ โ โ
ooh? now we're talkin'. you've got yourself a date.
( his reactions only seem to fuel ante's overinflated ego, more eager than ever to get in his good graces. leaning in as he talks. )
lively. cluttered. indulgent.
โ โ โ โ โ โ
โ
โ โ what is it that you're wanting to hear about? the trials as individual challenges or how i go about designing the environments?
i'm proud about the work i achieve for both, mind you.
โ
โ โ โ [ a small smirk. more of an awkward one to match the full-blown grin he gets from the other. ]
โ โ โ just prefer to talk about anything else other than myself, if i'm being honest. so why not talk about the in-depthness of the trials? hit me.
โ
โ โ an angel in itself is too good to be true. can i interest you in a drink? have i already asked thatโ? โจ๏ธ .
( scarfiotti seems to be getting a little bit flustered over himself. )
and what about downtown? three words.
โ
โ
โ โ not the man you married but .. well. we've seen different sides to him over the years too.
the best thing to do is to move on. the one you loved ceases to exist and the more you see of him the more you've likely realised this.
โ
ใ คใ คใ ค
i wish there truly was a "bright side" to any of this. things... well, things used to be different. you only see the man here, not the one i married.
