There’s no #ArchiveHour this month, so it’s the perfect opportunity to look back over the discussions hosted previously. Our most recent topics have been intangible cultural heritage, social media, and community archives but we’ve been here since 2017 so there is plenty to read!
@stagedreaction@archivehour@ISACSIreland@Macnas 100% agreed. I'd love to see the traditions surrounding Lá an Dreoilín (The Day of the Wren/ St Stephen's Day/ 26th December) in Dingle, Co. Kerry, added. This includes the wren boys, the fife & drum bands marching & playing, and possibly food & drink traditions.
#ArchiveHour
@archivehour@ISACSIreland BONUS #ArchiveHour One example on this is the archive of @macnas from Galway and its history of street performance, spectacle and story telling - and how the archive captures that artform locally and around the world by Macnas on tour over the years. https://t.co/4yXibWiN3X
@archivehour Q3 #ArchiveHour Keeping ICH alive is often down to work of activists and local groups. For something like minority language rights & ephemerality of campaigns see digitised @CnaG material digitised as part of project by @niamhnicharra@AislingNiC & others
https://t.co/pzpniOrE3g
@archivehour Q3 #archivehour Preserving the documentation done in the past is also important e.g. recent work by Digitisation team of @UniOfGalwayASC & the photographs of hurling and sliotar making in the 1950s by US photographer George Pickow https://t.co/R1tHngZK5I
@archivehour@ARAIreland Q4 #ArchiveHour For an example of oral history work see the Tuam Oral History Project, led by my colleague @SarahAnneBuckle & others of how survivor led testimony was collected and digitally preserved and shared here at @UniOfGalwayASC https://t.co/XMhBDhdJ9P
@archivehour BONUS #ArchiveHour So much to consider - There is such a rich & uniquely Irish history in performing arts here, especially circus (art, practice, craft, lifestyle, language, families) that should be actively preserved. For more see the work of @ISACSIreland and their members.
We'll be back at the end of May for the next #ArchiveHour but in the mean time please feel free to continue the conversation here - if you haven't been able to join us on tonight you're still welcome to contribute later.
@archivehour Q7 #ArchiveHour Maintain an ongoing dialogue & plan about how & where the material will be accessed. Avoid the archive repository as being called 'owner'. Also be honest to assess the gaps in your own collecting policy and be informed around best ways to respond to that gap.
And a bonus question to finish!
Bonus Q: What ICH from your region would you like to see inscribed on the Representative list of the ICH for Humanity? What can archivists do to support this process?

@archivehour Q7: Again there are many answers to this question but I will focus on one which has been a key priority for ITMA in the last year ...Rights! ITMA has a Commitment to free and open access to collections while respecting privacy and legal obligations #ArchiveHour
