What a splendid evening with @lynrobinson@david_bawden & the students of #CityLIS - great to talk about jobs, ethics, #diversity in the workforce and getting non-#librarians to understand (and pay for) our skills. Thanks for having me!
@internetarchive I'm in a small, not wealthy country working at an academic library. The IA is the *only* way students and faculty can access many of the books needed for their studies. We won't be buying the books if access is taken away, and will have to go without. It would be a real shame.
Re-found this spider squashed inside a book from 1492 when checking a reference. First time we saw it, we meant to ask if any scientists out there are interested in doing #DNA analysis of #insects, #flies, #moths, #spiders etc we have found in ancient books or MSS. If so, DM us.
humanities degrees can lead to analysis paralysis and stem degrees can lead to a reductive solutionist perspective. but I have never heard anyone from humanities question the need for stem to exist. it's a problem that so many consider humanities an indulgence and not a necessity
