Don’t try to discern your vocation alone, without the help of the Church. Talk to a sister, brother, priest, or deacon you trust.

Miracles happen on retreats!
One of the surest ways to discover God’s plan for you is to enter into silence and prayer over an extended period.

Search for good information online, then take what you have learned back to prayer.
Twelve years ago today, Bishop Peter L. Smith was ordained to the episcopacy by Archbishop Alexander Sample. The co-consecrators were Archbishop Emeritus John Vlazny and Bishop Liam Cary of Baker. Bishop Smith was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Portland in 2001.
We give thanks for his faithful ministry and witness to the Gospel. Ad multos annos!
6 Ways to Discern Your Vocation: #2 Sacraments:
The soul is the window through which we can see God and hear His voice. If the window is dirty because of sin, it must be cleaned through Confession so we can be in union with Jesus to show you your vocation.
6 Ways to Discern Your Vocation: #1 Prayer:
Prayer is a conversation with God–not just saying prayers, but speaking to the Lord from your heart. Ask Him to reveal His plan for you: “Jesus, I want to want what you want. Here I am, Lord; I come to do Your will.”
“Do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19)

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I invite you to join me for Holy Week at St. Mary’s Cathedral in northwest Portland.
I extend a special invitation to those who will be received into full communion with the Church at the Easter Vigil to be present for these sacred liturgies, as we commemorate the Passion, Death, and glorious Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Love all. Serve all.
Priests pour themselves out for the people of God every day. There are tough, stressful days and incredibly beautiful days.
With hearts full of love, priests serve the poor, visit the imprisoned, and counsel parishioners. They bring Jesus to all they meet.
Celebrating Holy Mass
Every day, priests hold in their hands God's greatest gift to humanity; the Eucharist. This "sacrament of sacraments" is life-giving nourishment for God's people and a sacrifice for the salvation of the world.
Change the world. Consider priesthood.
