Many think wisdom is found by searching and that it is like a journey; sometimes even seeing the journey as more worth than the destination. But this is like a man who has a rich father who desires to find wealth for himself, so he searches in briars and turns up a coin here or there by the wayside, when all along he only needed to ask his father and riches would've been given him.
Wisdom is from God and it does not come by searching, but by asking. It is pride which destroys learning. Many go off into books and speculations but the discernment of such things must come from God who gives lavishly to those who ask Him of it. Many die in their search for treasure, because they are too proud to simply ask the God of the Treasury. They sell their birthright for the lentils of Egypt, rather than feed on the heavenly mana given freely.
Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge and lost their life, their eyes were opened; then God appeared.
"And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight." - Luke 24:31
The disciples ate from the risen Christ, the fruit of that tree of death (the cross), and their eyes were open; then God vanished.
Oh to see Christ, to burn in our hearts at the beholding of His face. But can we tarry for long in sight of Him whose glory peels back the earth? For when we do see Him at His coming, the vapors that is this world will melt away. The disciples ate from the bread of Life and Christ vanished, so too in our death will He not appear? To behold Him in the fullness of His glory is too great a joy to carry on in this world, so in His vanishing, He goes away that we might again come into that work He has set before us; work until that harvest which is the immense joy of joys that will lift our hearts above every earthly sorrow.
"Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it" James 5:7
Augustine once said that he hated life but feared death, but then after his conversion he saw life as a means of delight in God and that God brings "death upon us so that we should not die apart from you."
In life, union; in death, union. Christ will have us for Himself as His portion and in Him both life and death are vapours leading to everlasting joy. Serve well knowing that every blessing you gain now, even if it may be given up temporarily, will be gained at last in Him.
The darkness fears him who has life; for he who is in Christ need not fear death, for in even death, our life in Christ is magnified and multiplied, to the glory of God.
Isaiah 57
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness
Amos 5:15
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
Psalms 37:12-13, 32
The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming...
The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
