the magic of playing gameboy, pokemon, and runescape as a kid has been hard to replicate in adulthood.
beating the elite 4 for the first time.
chopping yews to sell on the grand exchange.
dying in the wilderness with all your best gear on.
that excitement was tied to a time when play was at the center of our lives.
today, that generation finds itself with:
a) nostalgia, and
b) newfound disposable income.
a powerful combination.
we now have the freedom to pursue passions we couldn’t fully indulge in as kids.
the timing for @_portals_ season, @thebackwoodssol beta, and the @playsolana gen1 launch couldn’t be more perfect. feeling bullish for this cycle of @solana gamefi.
on the same note, users don’t care about “ai-powered”
that’s like a magician saying their tricks are “sleight of hand powered”
i don’t want to know that
just do magic please
Gamers in general don’t care about having things onchain.
Need to go 0 to 1 with what you’re offering to gamers onchain or else it’s just a waste of time.
This is maybe one of the most obvious things in crypto gaming that for whatever reason is constantly ignored.
floor price of @_portals_ dragon costumes has gone up 119% since my last post. this in-game item is now worth 28.6 sol (5.4k usd)
trust the ex runescape players
i reiterate: this will be the blue partyhat of the portals universe
13 sol (3.3k usd) for an in-game item is pretty insane...
but i just picked up a dragon costume on @_portals_
this will be the blue partyhat of the portals universe. portals is inevitable... and so dragon costumes are inevitable
only 101 supply. now we wait.
Coming soon: Peer-to-Peer Swaps on @solana.
A major step toward solving one of the biggest consumer pain points in live events, only possible on-chain.
Watch @saunders3000 demo it at @SolanaConf.
This one’s big. Stay tuned.
Today, we’re announcing that we’ve decided to back @saunders3000 and his team to build @xpticket.
When I met Mike at Breakpoint in 2023, he had just won the Grizzlython. I soon learned that Mike is a serial entrepreneur having sold his previous company to Grubhub and managed to bring his team along with him on a 10 year journey to eventually find their next goal: to build a better ticket marketplace.
Now, let me tell you a little about me. I go to a lot of shows, probably 30 a year, mostly concerts and some games. So I feel confident when I say that the current UX for ticket buying is archaic. The exorbitant fees, the lack of “resellability”, the difficulty of finding seats, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Mike’s vision for tickets is different.
Mike sees tickets as an asset class and the ticket exchange as, well, an exchange. He also sees the ticket buyer, not just as a buyer, but as a fan. This is what XP is building: an exchange for fans.
Despite Mike’s track record, this was a very hard round to raise. Almost every VC I introduced Mike to shared that “they would never do blockchain and ticketing”. Ticketing was too hard, too many incumbents.
This was music to my ears, because as an investor, I’m looking for truly contrarian investments and this checked all the boxes:
✅ Killer Founder & Team
✅ 1 → 100 innovation
✅ Serious traction
✅ A sector that average investors wouldn’t consider
I can go on and on about why XP is going to revolutionize the ticketing world, so if you want to hear more, feel free to reach out.
But if you want to XPerience what it takes to win, I highly recommend you sign up for XP today. Join me and watch as this team ships one of the best products in crypto faster than you could ever imagine.
We're thrilled to share XP has raised $6.2M to build the future of ticketing–with fans at the center–led by @blockchangevc with @L1D_xyz, @reflexivexyz, and others.
More below on how this accelerates our mission to build the most fulfilling live experiences for fans 👇
The access game is rigged.
Tickets disappear in seconds. Bots dominate crypto launches. IPOs favor banks over the public.
Same story: insiders win, supporters lose. This isn’t a free market — it’s a controlled one. We need something better, or the cycle won’t stop. /1
tbh i wasn’t a fan of @_portals_ new art for the collectors i had… but thanks to the swap protocol, i was able to secure these grails
