It's not about ongoing emissions. They are irrelevant now.

It's about the combined, accumulated force of all the heat-trapping gases in today's atmosphere (equivalent to 1.8 trillion tonnes of CO2, weighing much more than everything on Earth made by humans), which produces ~4 watts per square metre of radiative forcing, minus the temporary cooling effect of ~2W/m² by human-produced air pollution aerosols which make clouds more reflective.

So that's the net equivalent of around two burning candles of additional energy per m².

That doesn't sound like much until it's multiplied by the planet's surface area of 510,000,000,000,000 square metres.

That energy, exactly like a flame under a pot of water, warms the oceans and the planet over time.

Those candles keep burning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

They never stop burning, and the intensity of the burning is always growing.

Thousands of years from now, those 4 candles will still be burning, plus several more besides, keeping the planet hot for hundreds of thousands or millions of years.

There is no "fight" against climate change, any more than there's a fight against a hurricane or a tornado.

Societies, cities, communities and people need to be preparing and building resilience as best they can.

I hope I’m wrong, but I do feel it’s too late. The main reason being the media’s non-reaction. If educated intelligent people can casually ignore decades of warnings from NASA etc that humanity is at risk, why would the general public ever react appropriately?
