What do you say to your family when you don’t know if you’ll ever see them again?
In February 2022, he told his wife and children the war had begun. Then he left as Russian forces advanced towards Kyiv, unsure what the coming hours would bring.
This is President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Before politics, he built a successful career in Ukrainian television as a writer, producer and performer, even portraying a president on screen. In 2019, he was elected President of Ukraine. Three years later, Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
Sitting down with him was surreal and an enormous responsibility. It was a rare chance to hear his account of the first hours of the war and the decisions that followed.
We discussed things like:
How he found out Russia had invaded.
Why he refused an offer to evacuate Kyiv.
The 64km Russian military convoy advancing towards the capital.
How Russian forces tried to capture a key airport.
His account of discovering hundreds of bodies after Russian occupation.
What he believes it will take to end the war.
But I also wanted to understand how he’d been coping.
One of my first questions was simply, “How are you doing?” His answer was: “It’s hard.”
He spoke about meeting parents whose children had been killed. Some, he explained, simply ask him for a hug.
And as he spoke, there were tears in his eyes.
Whatever your views on the war or the decisions made by those involved, this is a rare opportunity to hear his account of events that have changed millions of lives.
Because behind every map, every headline and every political decision, there are real people.
Out now on all platforms ❤️👊🏾
(President Zelenskyy was recorded in Ukrainian and dubbed in English.)
President Trump’s decision to waive sanctions against Russia as Putin continues his brutal war of aggression against Ukraine dishonors the legacy of the late Senator Lindsey Graham and is decidedly not in the national interests of the United States and should be reversed.
Putin is a war criminal and only understands strength. Waiving Graham Act sanctions on Russia signals weakness at a moment that demands American strength. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression, just as we did during the years of the first Trump Administration.
A victory in Ukraine would be a victory for freedom and is squarely in the national interests of the United States. If Putin overruns Ukraine, I have no doubt it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him.
For the cause of freedom, for America’s national security and that of our allies including Ukraine, President Trump should Restore sanctions under the Graham Act immediately, Rescind the diesel deal with Russia and Rally our Allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. A historic video – November 22, 1994:
The U.S. President thanks Ukraine for giving up its nuclear weapons. In return, the U.S. promises to stand by Ukraine’s side to safeguard its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity well into the future.
That future has arrived—yet today, Trump and his circle act as if none of this ever happened.

‼️ BREAKING: AI agents have leaked more than 13,000 internal screenshots from 343 tech companies onto GitHub, including a frontier AI lab and several Fortune 500 companies.
Unable to attach images to private pull requests, the agents quietly posted them to public repos instead.
I want to thank everyone for all the support we’re receiving. There really is an incredible amount of it.
For me, the sacrifice of the people depicted on the helmet means more than any medal ever could - because they gave the most precious thing they had.
And simple respect toward them is exactly what I want to give.
I am at the site of a truly horrendous Russian missile attack.
Overnight, one of the largest American investments in Ukraine – Flex – an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce was hit by Russian missiles.
This was not only an attack on Ukraine. It was an attack on American business. Two missiles struck the factory, where 600 employees were working the night shift. Thanks to strict safety protocols, every life was saved.
Russia is not only devastating Ukraine — it is destroying and humiliating American business.
The region neighbors the EU and has been considered the safest region in Ukraine. Now definitely not so.
We call on President Trump to stand with American business and to confront Vladimir Putin’s campaign of destruction.

Today, important negotiations took place in Washington. We discussed many issues with President Trump. It was a long and detailed conversation, including discussions about the situation on the battlefield and our steps to bring peace closer. There were also several meetings in a format with European leaders and the President of the United States.
We discussed security guarantees. This is a key issue, a starting point towards ending the war. We appreciate the important signal from the United States regarding its readiness to support and be part of these guarantees. A lot of attention today was given to the return of our children, to the release of prisoners of war and civilians held by Russia. We agreed to work on this. The U.S. President also supported a meeting at the level of leaders. Such a meeting is necessary to resolve sensitive issues.
I thank President Trump for the invitation and for today’s special format of our meeting. I also thank all the leaders who were with us today: Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, Alexander Stubb, Ursula von der Leyen, Mark Rutte. Today was an important step, a demonstration of genuine unity between Europe and the United States. The leaders personally came to support Ukraine and to discuss everything that will bring us closer to real peace, to a reliable security architecture that will protect Ukraine and all of Europe. We continue our work, coordinating our steps with all allies who strive to end this war with dignity. I thank everyone who is helping.

Rescue workers have recovered a woman's body from the rubble – KVMA
Currently, one person has died and more than 20 have been injured.
Today, I called on the President to address my serious concern regarding reports the United States is withholding critical defense material pledged to Ukraine. This comes as Russia launches the largest aerial assault since the war began, firing over 500 weapons at civilian targets in a single week.
Ukrainian forces are not only safeguarding their homeland—they are holding the front line of freedom itself. There can be no half-measures in the defense of liberty. We must, as we always have, stand for peace through strength.
I have formally requested an emergency briefing from the White House and the Department of Defense to clarify these reports, review our nation’s weapons and munitions stockpiles, and ensure the United States remains fully committed to providing Ukraine with the resources it urgently needs to defend its people and preserve the cause of freedom.
In 2016–2017, we saw 120,000 Russian troops ready to go on the other side of the Estonian border.
Today, those troops are gone — literally dead in Ukraine.
Ukraine is fighting instead of us & @NATO would be stronger with Ukraine as its member.

Odesa was never a russian city
Today I visited 17th century Cossack cemeteries and a 5th century Greek settlement archeology site that existed before russia did.
Catherine the not so great showed up for 5 minutes and stuck a flag up. That does not make it russian.
