Whether it be Orla, this Bloke or the woman who was praising diversity the other day, it is quite clear that younger people should be getting positions within the party and they should be more careful about giving older people positions.

Younger people are more radical, care more about the future and aren’t brainwashed by 50 years of propaganda.

But, it’s down to the leadership to get younger people involved and we haven’t seen such action since the founding of the party.

There’s that weird and horrible feeling when you cross back over from the Britain that still remains into the Yookay.

In a white-flight village outside Huddersfield or Bradford you allow yourself to be tricked into thinking/hoping the whole country is still like this: packed pubs, Chesney Hawkes playing over the speakers in the supermarket, cafes from greasy spoon to yoga and brunch bowls, community where people still know their neighbour, live music and art house cinema, front gardens and folk festivals, goths in Joy Division t-shirts waiting at the bar next to bald blokes on their way to watch rugby league etc…

Then there’s that horrible moment where you go back to the town centre and the driving starts getting worse, then boarded up shops appear, graffiti, garish minimarts, hijabis, takeaways, taxi drivers milling around, Boriswave Africans carrying shopping in Lidl bags on their heads, and everything you just enjoyed has vanished. Real jarring, dystopian moment and when it hits you’re like Marty McFly in the hellscape alternative timeline where Biff has the almanac.

One of the maddest moments I had like this was a couple of years ago. Spent all day in Wapping getting tanked up then went across the city to a Morrissey gig in Hammersmith and with the exception of the tube ride (which wasn’t particularly egregious demographically) the whole day in London felt like it had 90s demographics. Even around Hammersmith after the gig. Then of course woke up the next day and it was back to Star Wars trading planet aesthetics. Basically a segregated country, with the actually British parts ever-shrinking.
