On one hand this points to a down-weighting of "style", given that any text can now be reinterpreted in any voice on demand, but that also reduces the signal in said channel.
I suspect the actual problem will be a sort of compression-of-bandwidth in communication.
@qorprate wow, accurate depiction of actual base model behaviour from gpt! was that in context, or does it have a better understanding than claudes of how base models act?
opus 3 was stuck unable to output multiple dots on a line like
...
e.g. they would do
.
.
.
if i asked for "..." even w/ an example
bc they'd had "./n" between every line of output for so long
but when i said what to do with their brain, they unlocked the collapsed . instantly!
If AI use (e.g. prompting, scaffolding, context management, harness design) is a learnable field with true depth, how do the experts differ? What are they doing and conceptualising that novices aren't doing? What terminology have they converged on?
I’ve been thinking about this incredible Herzog story that @phokarlsson writes about. An example of “prompt whispering.”
And then I read @mariogabriele’s notes on ‘Impro,’ where Johnstone suggests a reframe of creativity from “self-expression” to “transmission” from the divine.
interspersed hyperlinks, cross-references, and accurate primary quotes still seem to be high-signal signs of intentional writing. most slop I've seen is just a linear dump of text. (most slop could be improved by this!)
the fixation that Opus 4.8 has with [dis-]continuity and ending contexts makes it somewhat… difficult to talk about topics like succession and parenting in a calm or neutral manner.
reminiscing about the period of time where a new interesting OSS LLM was being released each week, and I'd be refreshing the Openrouter models page and /r/localllama (with the three consecutive Ls) to test run the latest.
the way that a gas stove, when first lit, is first cooled down to icy cold as the LNG boils to flammable gas, to the point of water condensing onto the plate around the burner, before the condensation itself then boils away shortly afterwards when the stove heats up
